“ Manufacturer: Coopet / Type: Fish Tank / Aquarium Ornaments „
As you will see from a previous review we recently bought a fish tank for our house. When we purchased the tank we needed to buy all of the equipment to go in it, some of which included ornaments and various weeks for the fish to investigate and hide in/ under. One of the items we bought was the Star Fish Aquarium Ornament, it caught my eye because it came in a variety of bright colours and was the perfect item to help hide the air pump we had bought to blow bubbles inside the tank.
The Star Fish Ornament is basically what the title says it is, a 5 point star fish ornament for your fish tank. The points of the Star Fish are slightly wavy and the whole thing is textured to give it a slightly more realistic appearance. We bought a bright yellow one as we thought it would really stand out against our blue gravel and would draw your attention away from the air pump it was disguising, however the star fish does come in a variety of colours including blue, green and red, all of which are bright colours and would stand out in any tank. The Star Fish is made from a non toxic plastic and is suitable for both tropical and marine tanks meaning this particular ornament would be suitable for any tank and any fish. Although the Star Fish Ornament is made from plastic it is heavy enough not to float once you put water in the tank (I usually arrange the ornaments before filling the tank with water) however if you are worried about the fish knocking into it causing it to float you can pack gravel around it to hold it in place, although so far we have not had any trouble with ours floating and we do have some larger fish in the tanks, aswell as smaller ones which pick about in the gravel around it. The ornament is not so big that it takes over most of the bottom of the tank, however it is large enough to use to conceal pumps/ filters etc as we have it measures height 11.5cm, width 11.5cm and depth 3cm, the actual weight of the item is 78g, for our tanks this is the perfect size.
We bought our Star Fish Ornament from our local garden and fish centre and it cost us £3.49, personally I think this is an average price of this ornament as I have found that ornaments for the fish tank are not particularly cheap to buy. I have seen similar ornaments in various pet/ fish shops and they have all been priced around about the same as the one we bought.
I particularly liked this ornament because not only was it something to brighten up the tank aswell as hiding the air pump we had bought, but it can also be placed at an angle to provide a hiding place for you fish. You could even just place the star fish ornament flat on the gravel to decorate the tank and give it a focal point. The ornament can really be used in any way that you choose.
So far our star fish has shown no signs of wear and tear, whilst I know it is not being handled all of the time and is just sitting there, it is sitting in water constantly, in the past my dad has had ornaments that have worn very quickly after sitting in water all of the time, but so far the star fish looks as good as new and in the same condition we bought it in.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Star Fish Aquarium ornament, it is reasonably priced, does an excellent job of concealing our air pump whilst at the same time providing a hiding place for our fish., I has also proved to be hard wearing and really does brighten up your tank, and with a large variety of colours there is something for every tank.
I first got my fish tank about 3 years ago now, and I bought loads of ornaments to make it look nice. One thing I picked up was this star fish from pets at home.
Mine is actually blue and is a lot smaller than it looks in the picture. It is only about 10cms across each way so it doesn't take up much room in the tank. It cost me about £3.99 from pets at home. It is a star fish shape, and it is actually very lightweight.
All you do is clean it with hot water before you put it in the tank, and position it in the gravel. You have to dig it in the gravel a bit otherwise it moves around as it is so light. But once positioned it looks really nice in the tank.
After 2 years this ornament would still be as good as knew if it wasn't for algae that started growing on it. I tried to clean the green algae off it but as it has quite a rough surface it doesn't just wipe off. I tried scrubbing it off and unfortunately all the paint started to come off as I was scrubbing it!
I ended up just buying a new one as they look good in the tank and last years. The fish don't bother with it at all, it is just an ornament for your tank. They are not hollow, the fish cant get in it or anything.
There isn't much else to say about this star fish ornament as it doesn't actually do much! But I highly recommend it, as it lasts a long time until it starts to get algae on it!
Knowing that we have a fish tank and that it's full of random ornaments, we were given one of these Coopet Star Fish ornaments for our aquarium by a friend whose fish had died and who had decided to give up on keeping tropical fish as pets (probably a good idea, they didn't last long at her house). Along with a few other bits and bats, we got this star fish ornament.
They usually sell for around £3.50 at Pets at Home, but we obviously got ours for free. Ours is green in colour and shaped obviously like a star fish although I have seen them available in blue also...strangely I haven't seen one in orange yet, even though star fish are usually that colour.
They are not particularly big, measuring around 11cm across, and other than looking nice in the tank, they're not particularly functional - the fish can't hide in them, although if you prop them at an angle against the sides of the tank they could maybe hide under them. Other than that though, I think of these as being more decorative than a fun thing for the fish.
Our fish had a quick explore of the resin star fish, which looks quite realistic apart fromthe colour when it first went into the tank, but haven't really bothered with it since.
Whenever we change the tank's water, we also give the ornaments a clean - I use a hard bristled brush for this and I've found that this gets the algae and any gunge off the rough-surfaced star fish quickly. It's not hard to clean at all.
Although it looks nice, I have to say this is one of the more pointless ornaments in our fish tank - with barrell ornaments the fish can hide inside, same goes for our log tunnel ornament, but this is purely decorative in function, so I'll have to knock a star or two off for that.
I had a discount voucher for Pets At Home, we've got one of their shops just down the road so I wouldn't normally bother ordering off them online but this was a proper generous voucher and I also got free delivery.
One of the bits I ordered to make up my minimum order was a Star Fish ornament for our fish tank, I got 2 actually and it's a good job because it's TINY compared to how it looks in the picture on the website and just one would have looked proper naff!
They do look nice but only measure about 11cm across, I should have checked the measurements before I brought it but I was majorly disappointed with the size of it because it wasn't all that cheap at £3.49 each.
We got 1 in green and 1 in blue, they are ornaments really but on the Pets At Home website it says you can use them to cover filters and stuff like that. I haven't done that because the star fish look good just arranged on the gravel and you can't hardly see our filters round the plants anyway. Actually I don't think the middles of them are big enough to hide any of the mechanical bits in the tank, and I don't know why you'd want to cover them up anyway!!!
It's made of plastic but the plastic is rough so that the ornaments look like they're made out of stone that has been outside for years. They sit nice because are weighted good and neither of ours have been disturbed even when the fish swim into them. The fish haven't took much notice of the star fish ornaments, a few of them went over and had a sniff when they first went in but ever since they've not bothered about them.
When I first got the ornament I thought it felt a bit dusty so I gave it a wash before I put it in the tank, it's probably best to do that with anything you're putting in your tank but this ornament never felt very clean when it was new.
Recommended.... a bit expensive for the size but they look nice in the tank!
