“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Fish Tank „
My daughters pet hamster died a few months ago and she was extremely upset, we gave it a proper burial in our back garden and explained it was away to heaven now. This made her feel much better and soon was asking for another hamster, I did not want her to get another hamster as it was me who was left to take care of it and clean the cage.
I was at my local pet shop stocking up on treats for my dogs when I noticed the Dora's Pirate Adventure fish tank. It had been reduced to £16.00 from £30.00. I decided to buy it along with two gold fish.
Dora is a well known cartoon from the Nick Jr channel, the fish tank starter kit came in a pale purple box with a picture of dora and the fish tank on it, it also came with instructions on how to set the tank up.
The tank is made from plastic and is transparent, the lid is bright purple and also made from plastic and has a clear viewing window that opens to feed your fish. The tank has a pirate theme background that shows a pirate boat and a island and show boots and a crab. The background is very colourful and sets a nice scene with our gold fish swimming around, the lid is easy enough to open.
The set came the tank stones that were very small and just enough to cover the bottom of the tank, they were mainly white with the odd green stone. I just wished they would have been more generous with the stones as I have now replaced them with more stones so the tank looked better.
The set also came with a dora figure to sit among the stones, dora is dressed in a pirate costume and has boots the monkey standing next to her, the figure also has sea weed behind dora and looks to be standing on sand. Its really cute and feels like good quality as its quite heavy and brightly coloured and adds the finishing touches to the tank. The set also had two plastic plants supplied, these were very flimsy and ugly so I replaced them with different plants.
The tank came with a 120 v water filter which is blue in colour and I put this to the back of the tank, it feel the tank is suitable for no more than two gold fishes as its quite small. It can only be used for cold water fish thats why I chose gold fish. The tank holds 15 L of water and the filter is not noisy.
My daughter loved her fish tank and has it in her bedroom on her desk, she loved the dora pirate them and has been helping cleaning the tank when its needed cleaned. Our gold fish are looking healthy enough in the tank and think they seem happy enough.
I was well worth the price I paid and I think its good value for money compared to so starter tanks..
Dora the Explorer Complete Fish Tank
We wanted to get our little one a couple of fish as her first pet (though subsequently we now have more than just fish now!), and when looking at tanks, we wanted one which was small enough for our little ones bedroom, big enough to fit a couple of fish in and pretty enough to keep our little one happy!
We took a trip to Pets at Home which had a good range of different tanks, and between us and our little one, we settled upon a Dora the Explorer tank which we got for £17.99 at a reduced price. The usual RRP is £25.00.
Dora the Explorer is a children's programme found on Nick Junior which teaches Spanish and problem solving to young children.
Back to the tank!
The tank is a small, basic goldfish tank with a pink lid which has two holes either side to allow the pump access. There is also a larger hole in the centre which opens up to allow you to feed the fish easily without taking the whole lid off, though this can also be done for cleaning and is just as easy - simply unclip the sides and it lifts off.
The tank comes with a small range of accessories; stones in green and white, a pump, Dora Pirate figure and a small plastic seaweed. It also comes complete with a cardboard picture as you might see on the show to fit on the back of the tank.
The pump is quite important to the fish' health, and although this is a small tank, it still really needs a good, working pump. The one which came with the tank is average though we have had a few problems with it clogging up, even when it is clean. The noise levels of the pump and quieter than usual, which is good.
We have two goldfish in the tank, aptly named Dora and Boots, and they have now got reasonably big, though the tank has enough room for them. I would not recommend having any more fish that two Goldfish, and depending upon how big the fish get will depend on how long two can live together in this tank.
Overall, we are very happy with this tank, and the added Dora bonus really helps youngsters get excited about caring for their fish.
The Dora the Explorer fish tank, I imagine, will appeal to every little girl out there who loves Dora and pink. It's an acrylic tank with a pink plastic lid and comes complete with gravel, filter-pump, plastic plant, Dora ornament and Dora background.
Being acrylic the tank is lightweight and probably a safer choice for kids than a standard glass tank. The lid is easily removed and has an access flap for feeding and holes for the cable to pass through from the filter. The gravel, background, plant and dora ornament are all very exciting for Dora fans but are otherwise no different from those in other tanks. The plant and ornament are helpful in giving the fish some shelter however.
The filter is tiny and contains a small sponge. Whilst being better than no filter at all I find myself cleaning this out constantly due to the large amount of waste produced by goldfish. Without regular cleaning it clogs up and stops working, often within days. The filter is easy to take apart though and simple to clean using old tank water.
The size of the tank is around the 10 litre mark which is sufficient for one 1.5" goldfish but won't suffice once that same fish grows a little (or a lot as they're prone to doing!). The small water volume also means that it's difficult to maintain stable water conditions which is likely to result in the all too often 'floating goldfish' problem.
Overall I'm disappointed that the company responsible for this tank are promoting keeping fish in such a small tank with a really tiny filter. It's possible to keep a fish alive in here should you be vigilent but it would need a new home far too quickly for my liking. Should the manufacturers have provided a larger tank and filter along a similar theme then they could have promoted good fish husbandry, allowing many children to be much more successful at looking after their wet pets. Buy with caution!
Our daughter has gone on and on about having a fish tank for as long as I can remember and my husband and I finally caved - especially after see saw the Dora The Explorer fish tank in a pet shop in Poole, Dorset. So for her 4th birthday we decided it would be a nice idea to buy her a Dora The Explorer fish tank.
We purchased it for £29.99 from the same pet shop in Poole, Dorset and the theme of the fish tank is the Dora Pirate Adventure theme - strangely enough it is my daughter's favourite Dora episode. The Dora fish tank is a complete set so you are not just paying for the fact that it is Dora teh Explorer, you are paying for a complete set up for some fish. The tank comes with the tank itself which has a pink lift up lid (one of the other reasons we purchased it seeing as we have cats and I didn't want them hooking the fish out!), a Dora figure wih Boots the Monkey, gravel which is green and white, 2 plastic plants and a sticker to make a background. This sticks on to the back of the tank and is designed to show Dora's Pirate ship so it fits in nicely with a sea theme. The tank also comes complete with a small internal filter which fits into the lid.
The tank holds 15 litres of water and is capable of holding two fish. The fish must be cold water fish though as this tank can only hold cold water fish. It does not have the capability to hold tropical or marine fish.
The tank is very nice and very easy to set up. It is made of a nice and sturdy plastic which I don't think will shatter easily. It is really girly with its pink lid and the added addition of the Dora figures is really good. The figures are easy to place and the gravel covers the bottom of the tank easily though I must admit the amount of gravel looks minimal in the bag it comes in. The sticker is easy to place and it goes on the outside of the tank on the back - I know of some people who have thought that it goes on the inside but it doesn't.
I did find the filter was a bit of a disappointment as it isn't powerful enough to keep the tank clean for longer than a couple of days so it does need to be done out regularly.
The lid of the tank is really good and a great idea as it prevents fish from diving out (it has happened to me before!) and stops the cats getting in. The lid is like a little flap and you simply lift this to feed the fish.
My daughter was absolutely thrilled with the tank and her two pet goldfish which she called Nemo and Dory! She is very proud of the fact that she feeds her fish and I have to say that she has been great with them and looks after them really well though obviously Mummy and Daddy do the cleaning of the tank for her. She is quite aware of when the tank does need to be done out though and will tell us.
I highly recommend this tank as a first fish tank for a child as not only does it allow your child to have a pet they can care for but it is also educational in terms of teaching your child how to care for a pet.
My niece Megan recently celebrated her 4th birthday, and ever since she had seen my aquarium she was desperate for one too. So mark and myself got her the Dora The Explorer Pirate Adventure Aquarium. She loves Dora and anything pink so this fitted the bill on both counts. I got this from Tesco Direct and it cost £28.00, this is roughly the price they are anywhere give or take a pound or two.
The tank is just a basic plastic fish tank with a pink lid. The tank has a capacity of 15 litres so its suitable for 2 small fish. It has a little lift up flap in the lid for feeding the fish.
You also get for your money a little Dora ornament. This is quite cute, its Dora dressed as a pirate along side her is her little monkey friend. You also get a bag, all be it small, of gravel. Megans had green and white gravel I would assume they are all the same. You get 2 green plastic plants and a background scene to put behind the tank. This shows a pirate ship in front of a background that looks very much like the road that Dora and her friends travel along during their adventures
Included in the aquarium set you get a small filter. This fits in the lid. I must say though, that the filter is not the best, its not really big enough and does need cleaning at least 2 or 3 times a week.
You don't get a heater with the tank so only cold water fish can be kept in there but I personally think that's a good idea for little children.
Over all its not a bad little tank set up for a small child. We soon had it up and running. Obviously they will need supervising with it and an adult to clean the filter. My niece was very excited to receive it and its now home to 2 small gold fish called Pooh and Tigger!
She will tell anyone who will listen that she looks after her fish herself and is very proud of the fact.
Over all it's a nice little tank set up. The pink lid makes it nice and girly and the Dora theme is popular. I would recomend this but it loses a star because of the filter.
We bought this fish tank for our two children as they are both Dora mad, as soon as they saw it that was the one they wanted. It comes with everything needed, stones, little plastic plant, figure of Dora, a cardboard underwater scene and a pump. The pump is only very small and with two fantail goldfish we were forever cleaning it out. The pump would slow down after only a few days and the fish would be unhappy. We bought an air stone with air pump to go in the tank with the existing pump, however, even though the fish were happy swimming in the bubbles the tank is not tall enough so water would collect in the lid area of the tank. In the end we bought a new tank.
If you are planning on keeping other cold water fish and not goldfish then I say that this tank would be perfect, however, I would not buy it for goldfish.
On the plus side, the tank lid is a very pretty pink (every little girl's favourite colour!) it comes with lots of extra's and it has Dora on it! The tank itself is plastic which makes it very easy to clean and the lid has a very handy feeding flap to lift up.
My two year old daughter loves taking care of the fish at her creche that I decided to get her her own goldfish which is how we ended up with this fish tank. It cost me 30 euro which didnt seem too expensive and it looked pretty cool!
I loved how it had the Dora the Explorer theme throughout and its compact enough not to take up too much room like other fish tanks. Its very kid friendly and my daughter is a big fan of Dora!
The tank itself is made out of clear plastic and can hold fifteen litres of water. The lid on the tank is pink and has a door which opens making it easier to feed the fish inside. It comes with a picture of a scene of the kids programme and this is placed behind the tank so it gives the impression they are under water. Also included is a Dora pirate statue, seaweed and stones for the bottom of the fish tank.
There is a pump which connects from the lid down into the water but I didnt find it to work well and we ended up cleaning it ourselves every three or so days. It would be nice if this was of good quality but considering the price of the fish tank I cant say I was surprised. It is suitable for cold water fish only so its perfect for goldfish which is where ours live. We actually have two in this tank and its just the right size for them both.
Its a great way for kids to look after their own pet and my daughter loves showing it off. I would recommend this to anyone who has young children as they will love it! Its not the most state of the art fish tank but it still looks better than the rest!
We bought my girls a dora fish tank after seeing it made up with fish in pets at home.
The fish tank cost £24.99 from our pets at home fish tank, they had sponge bob square pants too.
Dora the explorer fish tank is a cold water tank for cold water fish only. It is made from solid clear plastic.
The tank is small and compact but holds fifteen litres of water.
The set comes with yellow gravel, dora ornament dressed as a pirate , boots her monkey friend, plant, filter and a sticker background.
The tank is adorable with a pink lid and a clear flap to left so you can feed the fish.
The tank was easy to set up with only filling it wish water and leaving it sitting for 24 hours then we went to get our two goldfish that's all the fish you can have in a fifteen litre tank.
There is a small internal filter to help keep the tank cleaner for longer.
It is easy to keep clean and has given the girls entertainment, the dora tank is in their bedroom and they love to watch them swimming around.
My only problem with the tank was the sticker background as i put it on but had loads of air bubbles even after i smoothed it out , it also started to unpeel and come off so we just left it and to be honest the tank looks much better without it and we can see the fish more clearly.
Very cute small tank ideal for little girls.
Highly recommend the dora explorer fish tank.
Our cat was pregnant and of course my daughter couldn't wait! 3 beautiful kittens soon came. Maddie did fall in love with one of the kittens and over the 10 weeks we had them my husband and I tried desperately to talk her out of keeping it.
Finally we came to an agreement! She agreed to give up her kitten for a gold fish. Off we went to pets at home. They have a lot of choice of fish tanks for children. Maddie likes scooby doo and sponge bob but funny enough she didn't go for that she went for Dora the explorer. This was £25 reduced to £14.99 so we were all very pleased!
This tank is 15 litres and comes with green and white stones, a pump, small green seaweed plant and a Pirate Dora that all goes in the tank. It does also come with a cardboard picture for the back of the fish tank which we got laminated as if any water got on it the picture it would of ruined it. The tank is very basic, small and fits nicely in with Maddies bedroom. The lid is pink and has two round holes on either end depending what side you are to have the pump on. We have ours on the left side so you just break gently the plastic and out it pops and creates a hole. In the middle is a big hole with a flap so this enables you to feed your fishy. The lid comes off easy once you have unclipped the sides and clips in easy as well.
The pump is very small and to be honest not that great. I probably will invest on getting another one when I am next at pets at home. I would recommend to clean the pump maybe once or twice a week as it is so small. It however keeps the tank clean as its still shinning and gleaming away. It is noisy on the highest setting but we keep it low and doesn't make much noise at all. The pump does need to be kept completely under water so make sure you check water levels.
When we took the tank home you need to wash the stones thoroughly then place all the parts in the tank where you require. The tank needs to be set up for at least 3 days. The pump also needs to be kept on all the time to clean the water.
We then got our 2 bubbled eyed fish 5 days after the tank had been set up. We were told to put the bag that contained the two fish in the tank and leave for 30 minutes then place some of the tank water in the bag for another 30 minutes. After that the fish were free to see their new home!
One week later Madeline's fish died sadly. Pets at home can do a water test and if you fish died within 7 days and the water test comes out clear then they replace your fish for free. Our test came out with a high level of chlorine. I would say that all the pets at home staff didn't seem to understand and didn't seem to give us full information on how to care for our fish.
I then had an idea and that was my Mum being allergic to chlorine and therefore uses and drinks bottled water. I knew which bottled water she has so off I went to buy 15 litres. I cleaned the tank and the pump and placed the bottled water in the tank. It did only take around 13 1/2 litres of water. We set the tank up and left it for a few days. We also popped some tapsafe within the water which kills anything harmful to fish. We now have a oranda fish 'Lisa' who seems to be happy so fingers crossed.
Overall this tank is worth the money what more could you expect for £14.99! This tank is lovely and give it 4 out 5 as the pump is a let down.
Thank you for reading :-)
