Aquarian Tropical Fish Food
by purplekimmy
When I bought our first Goldfish (Fishy Windu, named by my son!), I was advised by the guy in the shop (Fishy Business) to use this brand of food as it is by far the best. I thought this was just because it cost £7 for an average sized tub, but I bought it anyway.
Our collection of goldfish grew (Mandy, Fin, Leaf and Glenda! ... Dont ask!) I still continued to buy Aquarian because although in Sainsburys it was a little cheaper £6.49, it really did seem to be enjoyed by all the goldfish and in fact our cat! I didn't crumble the flakes into the water, just dropped them on top and before long there was a mad rush by all fish involved. There was never any waste flakes, and it didn't make the water didn't go cloudy. The food itself comes in a blue tub with a silver lid that keeps the flakes fresh. Once opened the lid of the pot keeps them relatively fresh, although if the pot is open for too long they can go a bit soft and soggy, the fish still eat them though. Our fist cat Bailey loves the flakes too, when feeding our fish; I have to give him a little pile of flakes too. I will admit that the flakes themselves do smell very strong and it is quite unpleasant but once they are put away, the smell doesn't linger.
Highly recommend this food, and wouldn't even consider going to anther cheaper brand as I know this goes down well with fish and cats alike. Our fish are healthy, their colours are bright and their eyes clear, no difference has been noticed in the cat though. Read the complete review |

Features & Benefits
= = = = = = = = = = =
* Generates natural feeding behaviour
* Less waste - improved water quality
* Provides a feeding station for all grazing species
* Natural ingredients
* Sustainably sourced ingredients
We purchased the flakes from a local garden centre which have an aquatic section in it along with other animal supplies. For a tub of 110g, it cost us £9.99. You can buy larger sized tub of this product.
Feeding Guide
= = = = = = = =
Inside the pot you will find a plastic suction cup and sound round discs. The discs are a dark green colour and have quite a strong smell to them. Simply place one of the disc onto the suction cup and then fix this to your tank, placing it about half way down inside your aquarium. Only feed when the aquarium is illuminated and remove any uneaten food before turning the lights out.
Overall Opinion

We mainly have Tangs in our tank, so we know that the discs would prove popular when placing them into the tank. The discs are really easy to put onto the suction cups and I love watching the fish eat the discs. As soon as put the disc into the tank the fish pretty much go to it straight away and start nibbling away at it and within a few minutes the disc has completely gone. We can tell that the fish really enjoy eating these.
We put a disc in once a day as well as feeding the fish other food such as white bait, and mussels which they also love. The discs feel quite thick and hard, how-ever they do tend to soften up once in the water so the fish can easily nibble at them and pull bits off.
The discs are great for our fish and we love watching them eat and nibble away at the discs. My boyfriend has even filmed a short clip of them eating away at the disc. We never have the issue of having to remove any left over food before switching the lights off as the discs are gone by then anyway. When we run out of these we will be purchasing them again. We love purchasing the New Era brand of food for our fish as they are very good and are a reliable brand.

Wilkinson Goldfish Flakes
by Elaineee
I have a very fussy fish he'll only eat an expensive brand of fish flakes so when I tried to trick him Wilko's own fish flakes he knew.
The tub has had a face lift since the above picture it is now white. Retailing at £1.39 for 25g I thought I'd try it as the food I buy now is around £3 for the same amount. 'Wilko Fishy Feast ... Goldfish Flakes' provides a 'complete and balanced meal for your Goldfish' but only if they can stomach it and unfortunately mine can't. The fish I have at the moment is 11yrs old- the other one was 13 and he wouldn't eat it either, so it was a false economy (maybe the dearer food kept them going!).
The flakes themselves are brightly coloured, and a little too big- I had to sprinkle it between my fingers first, thinking maybe that was the problem but no they still wouldn't eat it. It smells really fishy not nice at all. I would say they needed cleaning out more whilst using this food but that maybe because they left it in there. Perhaps if I had introduced them to this sooner they may not of got used to the dear stuff.
I wouldn't buy this again. Read the complete review |
