I have two goldfish living in a 12 litre tank and I have used this type of food for a while now and have no complaints with it.
Firstly, a tub of this food lasts for absolutely ages. I am using a 13g tub at the moment - which cost me £1.99 from my local pet store - and I tend to buy the smaller tubs as I just think it maybe keeps it a bit fresher, rather than having one big tub onthe go which will be open for months & months. There is a foil seal on it when you buy it and the tub lid fits quite snugly but I still prefer to use a smaller tub.
This is a 100% complete food for goldfish, although there are other things - 'treats' - available that you can give your fish to keep things interesting for them. My fish always happily eat this and I tend to put a bit in for them 2 to 3 times a day, being careful not to put too much in. This promises to keep the water clean and clear and I have to say it is pretty good for that. It also contains plenty of vitamins and just everything your fish need to stay healthy.
I love being an owner of goldfish, they not only make a lovely display in my room but they are fascinating to watch and when it comes to looking after them I like to think I do a good job. Anyone that is a keen goldfish keeper will know that they are harder work to look after than many would think, that said, they are renowned for being hassle free when it comes to feeding. I have two goldfish called Del boy and Rodney (haha!). For a while I tended to just pick up any fish food from wherever I went at the time I was running out but after trying King British Goldfish flake food I try my best to get my hands on this as my first choice.
The flakes come in a blue tub, the size I have is 28g, however, I believe they also are available in tubs of 55g and 200g. I purchased mine from a local pet store and the tub set me back just under £2. It is available on Amazon for £1.66, so slightly cheaper online however you do have to pay for delivery.
The sticker on the lid of the tub has three bullet points...
1. For healthy active and colourful fish.
2. Exceptional nutrition.
3. For clean, clear water.
These are the main three things I look for when buying fish food, after all I want the best for my fishies and nobody wants murky water!. I must say my fish seem much more active after being fed this food in comparison to the food I used to feed them. They often bolt around the tank rather than just lazing at the bottom looking rather sorry for themselves. I was also very impressed with how long the water stayed clear for, of course its inevitable that the water will turn a funny colour if you don't do water changes and have a good pump but I think it has definitely made the water stay a lot clearer since using this food.
King British claims that this goldfish food is a complete and balanced diet, scientifically developed to meet the specific nutritional requirements of all coldwater fish. The food contains a high protein/low waste formula, with all essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It also contains immune health booster which is a natural seaweed extract that helps provide a stronger natural shield against infection and disease. All of these things sound brilliant and exactly what my fish need so I don't have to worry about what I'm giving them and if they are getting everything they need. Full ingredients are listed on the side of the tub.
The tub recommends that you feed your goldfish 2 to 3 times daily sufficient to last approximately 2 minutes per feed, not to overfeed and to remove any uneaten food. I feel that this is much too much food for my fish and they become very sluggish if they are fed this much. I feed mine once a day and they seem very happy. I have had my tub for about 6 months now and I still have about 1/4 left so you really do get value for money. Unfortunately, the food does have a terrible smell but I think that's the same for all fish foods so can't mark it down for that.
Recommend to a friend? Yes, but only for their fish! hahaha
King British Goldfish flake food is a good all-rounder. It's intended for cold-water fish and instructions say to ideally feed your fish three times a day as much as they can eat in two minutes. Well, if we did that, our fishies would be fat indeed! We have two goldfish that are just over a year old each and they're perfectly healthy on one feeding a day (that said, they do get bloodworm treats twice a week). Even if fed as instructions suggest, this food lasts forever. We're using a 55g tub at the moment and fully expect it to last until towards the end of 2010. It's not expensive, it is good quality, and you can't really ask for more than that, can you?
If you sometimes put too much food into the tank (if they don't eat it all within two minutes), don't worry too much. Occasional overuse won't pose a problem but if you do it consistently, be prepared for your tank's water quality to be lower much quicker.
(Please be aware that this kind of food is not suitable for when you are on holiday - you can't dump a load in the fish tank and expect it to last. Use something more appropriate and designed for that task, something like 7-day pyramid feeders! Or get a family member in with a spare set of keys.)
King British Goldfish Flake Food is a complete food for all coldwater fish. It comes in several sized plastic pots which are blue with a blue label on them with all the detail about this fish food written on it.
The instructions on the pot say that you should feed this to your goldfish 2 or 3 times a day and make sure that all that you put into the tank is either eaten or removed after 2 minutes of being in there.
The medium sized pot tends to last me about 2 months and costs about £3.50 which I find is very reasonable. I have 4 large adult goldfish in my tank that do tend to eat everything I give them so none of it is wasted!
The flakes themselves are orange, black and yellow in colour and break up quite easily, both in your hand and in the water so that the fish can eat them easily.
Most good pet stores sell King British Flake Fish Food and if you happen to see it, I would certainly recommend it.
King British Goldfish Flake Food is a fish food that contains lots of different coloured brownish orangish fish flakes that you simply sprinkle into your fish bowl to feed your gold fish every day.
The flakes are dry so they dont make too much of a mess when you are sprinkling them into the bowl, it also doesnt from my experiance, leave that scum that some fish foods can leave in your fish bowl though you still will need to clean it out on occassion.
There is enough in a tub to keep your gold fish feeding for over 2 weeks, depending on how big your gold fish is and how much food it needs.
You can feed your gold fish and other cold water fish this fish food and it will encourage your fish to have a more healthy colouring and help it stay healthy.
A box of this fish food costs around £3 which is a great price to pay for over 2 weeks feeding of a pet (even if it is just a gold fish).
I reccommend this fish food as it is great value and lasts your gold fish ages in feeding.
Specifically formulated for all types of coldwater fish / for indoor and outdoor use
