“ Brand: King British / Food Type: Fish Food „
We now have two tropical aquarium set-ups in our home, and both tanks contain a variety of fish. My partner has a wide range of knowledge and experience in dealing with fish keeping as he used to be a breeder. King British produce a wide range of fish foods and their products can be found in most good pet stores. This Plecostomus Tablet Food costs £4.09 for a 60g tub of food.
It's important to consider the type of fish you are keeping when you are buying their food. There are separate food types for cold water and tropical fish. King British Plecostomus Tablet Food is a complete food that is specifically tailored to the needs of vegetarian catfish. In our main fish tank we have a bristle nosed catfish and an upside down catfish so this food sounded perfect for them.

Feeding guide: Feed 2 to 3 times daily or as much as your fish will consume within 2-3 minutes. Do not overfeed and remove any uneaten food.
The flakes come in a small plastic tub that has a simple pull off lid. There is a foil seal over the top of the food to keep it fresh but obviously you have to remove this before you can get the food out. It is easy to control how much food you are putting into the tank as you can just pick out the required number of tablets and drop them in. This has proved useful and helped to stop me from accidentally over feeding the fish. The recommendations on the packaging say to feed 2 to 3 times a day which seems rather excessive to me. I feed my catfish one tablet a day and this seems to be sufficient. I provide flake food for my other fish within the tank, although my Angel fish are greedy little buggers and quite often have a go at this tablet food as well so in that case I will put in an extra tablet to make sure my catfish are still getting their fair share. There are plenty of tablets in the tub and will last for a long time as long as you don't overfeed.
The tablets themselves are small and have a solid heavy feel to them. They float down quickly through the water which allows the fish to zone in on it straight away as it specifically targets the bottom dwelling fishies. Because the tablets are quite well compacted they do break up a little, but they don't instantly fall apart which means there is less mess and food waste created.
The tablets have a greyish green colour which doesn't look appetising but the food tablets are always completely eaten up by my fish so I guess they taste good! I have a feeding routine that the fish seem to have grown to recognise and they are always aware of when feeding time will be so they are often sat there at the bottom waiting for me to feed them! These food tablets have a strong smell, but it's not too bad as you can just quickly pop them in the tank and place the lid back over and the scent doesn't stay around and feel overpowering.
King British is a high quality brand of fish food and this Plecostomus Tablet Food keeps my catfish happy and healthy. I have noticed that since I introduced this tablet food into their regular diet my catfish have become more visibly active, and are becoming quite cocky in their exploration of the tank and all it's ornaments, whereas before when they were just having the regular flakes that I use for the other fish they were more prone to hiding and staying under the cover of the decorations and weeds. Because this food is designed specifically for this type of fish I can be safe in the knowledge that both my catfish are getting the right nutrients that they need. I think that Plecostomus Tablet Food is a great product, they are easy to use, my fish like them, and they are suited specifically to the needs of my catfish. A good value and reliable fish food that I would recommend to other catfish owners.
Ingredients: Fish and Fish Derivatives, Cereals, Yeasts, Derivatives of Vegetable Origin, Vegetable Protein Extracts, Molluscs and Crustaceans, Oils and Fats, Algae, Minerals.
Having a large tropical tank house to various catfish and sinking food eaters, I decided to buy various foods for my fish.
To give a variety into my fish diet, I feed them vegetables, bloodworm (live and frozen) and daphnia, however its always easier to have a supply on hand to keep in the cuboard!
I bought the King British from my local pets at home shop, its not expensive and there are a variety of king fisher sinking foods to choose from.
Looking at the ingredients, it shows these tablets are nutritious and not just an easy option for the fish keepers!
Ingredients; ....... Fish and fish derivatives, derivatives of vegetable origin, vegetable protein extracts, cereals, molluscs and crustaceans, algae including spirulina min 3%, oils and fats.
The tablets are great for all algae eaters and contain spirulina which I regularly buy from online and feed my young fish in the powder form.
The tubs come in 40g although you can probably buy them in larger packs from somewhere...
I hardly ever need to buy these as they do last a very long time.
The tablets come in around a 5 pence size but I break the tablets up and feed them in quarters, putting about half a tablet in.
My middle swimming fish have their share, however as soon as the big catfish come out they snatch up a quarter of the tablet each and its gone in a flash.
All my fish love it, the instructions say to remove any uneaten food, although the food in my tank never lasts longer than 10 seconds!
The tablets are highly digestible. They are easily broken and digested but will disperse if left in the water long enough.
The tub says the tablets are for clear clean water, the tablets won't effect your water quality however if over fed they will cause a mess, which left could turn to ammonia.
The only thing I would say about the instructions is that, they advise to feed your fish daily but only 6 days a week.
Ive kept fish for many years and Ive only ever fed them every other day, sometimes waiting up to three days, and my fish thrive.
Also by not overfeeding, it keeps your water quality high.
I will continue to use this product as it is a great fish food and always lasts me a long time.
After use, the tub is handy to keep for storing other products you may need to keep with a lid on.
The only bad thing about these tablets is the smell, however you can't expect to sniff a pot of algae tablets and get a nice odour!
Having had tropical fish for a few years, I was given "Jaws" a giant cat fish type creature of a fish who "hoovers" the tank. In the pet shop, buying food for the run of the mill neon tetras and guppys, I did not realise I had to buy the "hoover" a different type of food.
I have fed the "normal" fish the King British range before so went with the brand that I knew. The "Plecostomus Tablet Food" is suitable for all vegetarian catfish and is recommended to achieve healthy, active and colourful fish. It is a complete scientifically developed balanced diet tablet which is highly digestible and contains all of the essential vitimins, minerals and trace elements needed. It has a low wate formula and is suitable to give clean and clear water. It also contains seaweed extract to keep the fish healthy and active.
A 60g tub cost me approximately £3.00 and I have fed Jaws 3 tablets twice daily - morning and night and he loves it! The "hoover" effect can be seen when I drop the tablets into the tank! The tablets are a greyish colour, slightly smaller than the size of a penny and sink to the bottom of the tank when dropped in. They do not stay there for very long when Jaws realises he's being fed!
The fish genuinely does seem to like this food. He is healthy and active. I cannot complain about it.
