A great complete fish food for tropical fish

We had fed our tropical fish different food over the years but the favourite in our house are the Tetramin fish flakes. Tetra, the makers of Tetramin are well respected in the world of fish keeping, and we have found their fish flakes to be a good all round product to use. We pay £2.20 for a 20g yellow and brown tub of the flake food at our local pet shop, although the flakes are widely available and can be bought in pet shops and supermarkets too usually.

These fish food flakes are suitable for all tropical (as in NOT cold water) fish so this is a good product for our array of tropicals. They are designed to keep your fish fit and healthy by being full of all the vitamins and minerals your fish could need.

The flake food comes in a small plastic tub with a sliding lid that covers a slot through which the food is dispensed. I just shake a very small amount of flakes out of the tub every day (usually no more than 7 or 8 flakes for the amount of fish we have) into the water. The red, green and yellowy coloured flakes are very small so they float on top of the water for a while before starting to slowly float downwards. The flakes in our tank never have time to sink to the bottom, they are always snapped up by then, so it's clear that our fish really like the Tetramin flakes.

Some fish food flakes really smell, ironically they can smell quite fishy, but these ones don't smell too strongly when compared to the other types we have tried on our fish before.

A 20g tub of these Tetramin fish flakes lasts us around 3 weeks usually, if not longer, so for £2.20 I consider them to be good value and worth the money.

As a complete food for our tropical fish, which are suited to both the small and larger fish we have, these are easy to use, inexpensive but very nutrient-rich flakes that I can really recommend.

A great everyday fish food that will provide a balanced diet for your tropical fish

We now have two tropical aquarium set-ups in our home, and both tanks contain a variety of fish. My partner has a wide range of knowledge and experience in dealing with fish keeping as he used to be a breeder. Tetra is a leading brand and their products can be found in most good pet stores. It costs between £2.00 and £3.00 for a 20g tub of food.

It's important to consider the type of fish you are keeping when you are buying their food. There are separate food types for cold water and tropical fish. TetraMin is a complete food that is suitable for all tropical fish.

Tetra say: "TetraMin - the nutritionally balanced premium flake food for all tropical ornamental fish.
Highest quality ingredients has made TetraMin the world's best selling tropical fish food for more than 50 years.
+ New and improved formula for cleaner and clearer water - guaranteed
+ Patented Active formula maintains a healthy immune system
+ Carefully selected mix of highly nutritious ingredients with vitamins, minerals, and trace elements for complete nutrition"

The flakes come in a small plastic tub that has a sliding panel on the top of the lid. This provides a small slot for you to be able to shake the flakes out into the tank for your fish. It is easy to control how much food you are dispensing and this has helped to stop me from accidentally over feeding the fish.

The flakes themselves are small and lightweight, and are a mix of red, green and yellow shades. They float down slowly through the water which allows the fish a good amount of time to swim after it and feed. This also helps because as they don't sink straight to the bottom the fish have a better chance of catching it and it doesn't just create a mess amongst the gravel at the base of the tank.

The flakes are always quickly devoured by my fish so I guess they taste good! I have a feeding routine that the fish seem to have grown to recognise and they are always quick to swim up and eat. The flakes are small enough to be nibbled at by little fish as well as easily consumed by bigger ones. Fish flakes often have a strong smell, but these aren't as stinky as other brands that I have tried and you don't get that nasty overwhelming whiff when you open the lid.

TetraMin flakes are a high quality brand of fish food that keeps my fish happy and healthy. It is suitable for all types of tropical fish so I can be safe in the knowledge that all my fish are getting the right nutrients that they need. I think that TetraMin flakes are a great product, they are easy to use, my fish like them, and they provide a balanced diet as required. A good value and reliable fish food that I would recommend to other fish owners.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Great general Flaked food

TetraMin fish flakes are a broad range flake food for most tropical fish. Although I would always advise to offer your fish a varied diet, as a basic staple diet, I would highly recommend the TetraMin flakes. As with all of the Tetra foods that I have used, not only do the fish seem to respond really well to the foods, they do not foul the water, or make it cloudy. The TetraMin flake is not a specific flake food for any particular fish or for any particular benefit. They incorporate everything needed for a balanced diet. You will not notice as much colour enhancing benefits as some of the specific colour foods, or as much growth in your fish as some of the growth foods, but the flake will sustain your fishes health, and with the addition of a few other treats, be the only flake food that you need to feed. Do not be put off by what is a seemingly high price, as the food has a good protein value, and a very high compsumtion to energy rate. A lot of flake food available, generally very cheap foods, most of the food simply passes straight through your fishes digestion system, and creates water quality issues in your tank. Tetra food will not do this. What the fish eat, stays inside them, helps them grow, and they use for energy. So studies have shown, the fish have not told me this themselves!!! Ha. A brilliant staple food for most tropical mid swimming species.
