Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel/Stool
by benclark88
I adore fishing and often go on little adventures to lakes and rivers for a few nights. When on these trips it is vital to bring the right necessities such as food, water, equipment (but mainly beer). Whilst sat there for hours on end you need a stool so when I saw the Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel/Stool combo for around 16 pounds I ... thought it would be ideal for me.
The stool itself is small so I do not sit on it for hours on end. But it is great to leave by a rod ready for any action. It folds away and is very compact so I can easily take it anywhere. It is made of metal poles with black canvass in the middle to sit on. It can be attached and detached from the creel.
Moving on to the creel. This has numerous pouches and pockets to hold all kinds of floats, weights and essentials. There are obvious pockets on the outside but also some additional compartments inside as well. On its own it is extremely light made up of polyester canvass. Together with the stool there is a minute weight of just 1.8 kg. The creel is not a thing of beauty with a dark grey and black colour it appears quite dull (but to be honest I am not try to impress anyone).
It is a very practical combination and perfect for fishing trips for a reasonable price. Read the complete review |

Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel/Stool
by northernlovely
In the Summer months I often accompany my nephew fishing, whilst being far from an expert at it, I find it very relaxing, and there's nothing relaxing about sitting on a wet, cold and muddy river bank! So a good seat is essential. I must admit I wasn't expecting all that much from the Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel and Stool, purely ... because I picked it up from Amazon for £10 with free next day delivery on my Prime account. But I thought it would be OK for occasional use.
I have to say - I'm pleasantly surprised. The Neptune is a dark green Oxford rucksack, which is very easy to carry. It looks quite good (suitable for men or women) and weighs in at a very carryable 1.8kg. It features padded shoulder straps with quick release cords, which make it very versatile, you can carry it on both shoulders (recommended, for better weight distribution), on one shoulder or by hand (there is a black carry strap on the top).
It is styled in polyester meaning it is fully waterproof and can be washed in the washing machine (but line not tumble dried) - essential, as fishing equipment can smell! Once you get to your fishing spot, the rucksack converts to a tubular steel X frame seat, with a padded cover. There have been reviews on here questioning it's comfort, but for me it's perfectly comfortable, for spells of an hour or so, and longer with a short break to stretch the legs. OK there is nothing to rest against and you can certainly buy more substantial deckchair like fishing chairs but they are a lot more cumbersome, expensive and not something the casual fisherman or woman may need. I don't think you can argue with the quality for £10. Once seated, the bag provides a handy creel for fish (if you fish for dinner, that is, and not sport). Or you can keep your essentials in there.
Once up, the seat sits at a 44cm height which for me is ideal. It can of course also be used on camping and hiking trips, picnics, in the back of the car for emergencies where you must leave your car (ie, breakdowns) and even in the garden or beach. So it's a pretty versatile little chair and so well made I can see mine lasting me a good while, despite my initial misgivings based on the low cost.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase indeed and can see that this seat will be very useful to me in the future. I will certainly be buying another as a gift for a family member into fishing, and it would make a great present for any fisher, hiker or camper. Certainly I think £10 is excellent value for money - I would even have said £20 was fair, so at half that it is a steal. I'd have liked to see a variation of colours but that's a minor issue - the green is very versatile.
I will award the Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel and Stool a very well deserved 5 stars out of 5 - it does what it does very well, simply, and for a low cost. Exactly what you need. Read the complete review |

Gelert Neptune Fishing Creel/Stool

Intro
------
Right then, i am going to open this review in a way that i am sure that none of you will have expected. As much as i like the idea, and would like to do it in the future, i have never previously been fishing in my life! Why do you own the stool then? I hear you cry. Well, my parents are keen walkers, and ... occasionally on a nice summers day i go along too, and this stool is a key piece of their inventory. It's multipurpose, allowing you to carry lots of belongings, whilst also allowing you a nice seat while your sitting and admiring the countryside, perhaps having a nice picnic!
The Creel
------------
The Creel, or bag, as us none fishing types would probably call it, allows you to store the stool while wandering around the countryside. It is made of polyester and is nice and light, meaning that you aren't lugging around half the world with you, which is always a bonus. I should know, as i am always made to carry the heavy stuff, and it is never this item! It also has a number of very handy little pockets on, perfect for a walk or a camping holiday, perhaps, where you can keep items such as torches, first aid bits and pieces, and other things that you would usually not have room to bring with you on your walk or your trip. I'm quite sure this is also very relevant for fishing, as you will obviously have lots of bits and bobs that you need to carry with you.
The Stool
------------
The stool is easy to get out, and is incredibly simple, being just two simple bits of steel with a piece of polyester across to sit down on. It has been mentioned before but i think i need to restress that this is not all that comfy, particularly if you are of the bigger disposition, as there is not a great deal of room to stick your backside on too! However, me and my family have no issues with this, so it is not a downside for us, but worth considering if you are thinking of buying the product. I have to mention that it is not the sturdiest thing in the world, particularly if you are parked on a hill, so it is probably best to keep your wits about you whilst sat on it!
Price and durability
------------------------
I believe we bought ours from a local outdoorsy shop, for about £15 but it is also available widely on the net for a similar price. We have used it a few times and have not noticed any problems with durability, so its a big thumbs up for that. However, you can probably get similar alternatives on the market for a cheaper price, so it is worth shopping about.
Summary
-----------
A good stool and bag for all your outdoor needs. Read the complete review |
