Adidas Speed Rope
by sympatic This was a replacement rope after the one I had got damaged and was beyond repair, I paid £7.99 for it and was attracted to the fact that it claimed to be ideal for speed training and the grips looked nice and comfortable. Buying this online meant that I did not get to see the product befgore I bought it and if I had I may not have gone ... ahaed as the rope was a lot thicker than I expected it to be however despite my initial misgivings I decided to give it a try as the cost had hardly broke the bank. When first using this skipping rope I certainly found the foam grips to be very comfortable, even after a bit of use I found the grip to be excellent even if my hands started to get a bit sweaty. The grips are black in colour as is the rope itself. There was no risk of the grips slipping or twisting in my hand. The only real downside is that the sweat does tend to soak into the grips and I guess this means they could begin to smell after a while but that is not a problem so far. One way around this is to wear exercise gloves which I do if I'm working with weights but not when doing cardio. The rope itself is 3m in length so there is plenty of slack in it when in use, if anything for me it is too long however I was not worried as the rope is adjustable. However to adjust the rope length you need to pop off the ends of the handles and you will need soething to lever them off as they are rather securely slotted in, this means it is best to adjust it before going to the gym as I needed a screwdriver to act as a lever the first time I opened them. Inside the handles are a clip that secure the rope to the length you want. The problem with this is that any excess rope has to be removed as there is no where to store it in the handles, this means that once adjusted to suit a shorty like me it is of no use to my other half who is over 6ft. The rope itself is durable and well made, it is quite thick however I soon adjusted to this and it was not an issue for me. It is easy to use and is good value, the only gripe I have is that it can only now be used by someone my height as the cutting of the rope is rather terminal with regards to any adjustment in the future. If you are looking for an affordable exercise rope then this could be one that is worth considering in my opinion. Read the complete review |

Adidas Speed Rope
by k444tmc In recent months, getting older I have been getting a bit more health-concious in terms of eating better and doing more exercise - something I wasn't too worried about when I was younger... I like going out for a run but with the cold miserable rainy weather setting in up here in the Lake District I wanted to look into other exercising ... options for something to do on one of these said days! I loved skipping as a child and was forever playing skipping games with my friends and had a skipping rope out constantly in the playground... in recent years I loved skipping on the Nintendo WII - so on a trip to Argos a couple of months ago I spotted this skipping rope at half price around £5, so snapped it up... I had high hopes due to what a great Adidas is over a range of products... my mum was also so impressed with the price from such a great brand that she reserved and bought the only one left in store the same day... After this the Speed Rope seemed to dissapear from Argos so I can only assume they discontinued them which was the reason for such a low price... ********** Packaging The speed rope comes nicely presenteted in a medium sized black cardboard box with the three well known adidas stripes through the black towards the base - there is also a transparent section in the front of the box where you can partially see the rope through. In the top left corner it gives you the brand name - Adidas Performance and in the bottom right it tells the the product type - Speed Rope - it also gives you the translation of the name in french. The top of the box is sealed with tape which can easily be broken using fingernails or a pair of scissors. The back of the box tells the the specification of the skipping rope in english and a range of other languages from French to Arabic to Korean, which is the norm for a range of Adidas products. The specification gives you the simple terms of the rope as follows : * Adjustable rope length * Comfortable foam grip * Integral bearing for speed training In the bottom right corner you also get a full image of the skipping rope and you are told the length of the rope is 300cm. When I hear the phrase "Speed Training" I think of constant hard exercise so I had great confidence that I would love this skipping rope. ********** The Skipping Rope When you get the skipping rope out of the packaging you notice the attractive appearance of it. Just like the image shown on the back of the box it is all black in colour (including the rope) and the handles are a hard foam material with the adidas logo stamped on to the end of the handle in a white font. When I "tried the skipping rope out for size" the first thing I noticed as even though it was the smaller rope I had opted for it was way too long - I am around 5'4 in height... but remembering back to the packaging and how the length can be adjusted I popped off the end of the handles on the hand grips eager to ge the length adjusted so I could test it out! The ends of the hand grips can be popped open using a knife - I remember this being quite difficult to open them it took me around 10 minutes to do but in a way this gives you confidence that the product is well made and will not fall to bits. Upon opening the hand grips you then notice a clip inside which holds the rope length in place to stop it moving around when in use. As long as you don't lose these little clips the skipping rope should never move. When I was going to adjust the skipping rope length I had hoped I could fold the excess rope up inside the grips that I didn't need - so this way if a taller person wanted to use the skipping rope the grips could just be opened again and easily adjusted... unfortunately it seems due to the thick hard plastic rope you don't actually have the room inside the small space in the hand bars to do this so sadly I had to take a pair of scissors to the rope to cut off the excess I didnt need... ********** My thoughts? So finally when you are finished adjusting the rope length you are ready to skip! For a short time the "comfortable foam grip handles" are pleasant to grip on to whilst using the rope but I find after constantly skipping for half an hour your hands really start to feel a bit sore... so I can't imagine how people feel who are in training who skip for more than half an hour. It got so bad for me that I had to purchase some fingerless exercise gloves to relieve the pain on the palms of my hand which helps. Another gripe for me on this rope is the thickness of the rope - I'll hold my hands up and say its very durable and less likely to be damaged or fall apart however it also causes the issue of being non flexible which can make skipping difficult - ie. it gets caught on your legs ect. Personally I don't think someone in speed training could use this rope constantly due to the thickness of the rope in particular and I have seen other exercise ropes where the thickness is nowhere near as awful as this one. I found my mum - as mentioned above she also bought this - had the same issues with it as me, and she used it once and it then got thrown into the back of a cupboard for the forseeable future. I am continuing to use the rope (with some difficulty) although I am getting used to its faults. However in future I think I will be buying an Argos own brand rope due to the lower price and the fact that they are much easier to skip with. I wouldn't particually recommend this rope to anyone if I'm honest. ********** Although discontinued from Argos you can find the same skipping rope on Amazon for £7.99 including delivery Read the complete review |

Aquatina Collapsible Water Bottle
by paulm99 It bought this bottle mainly after seeing it on TV and thinking it was one of those great but simple ideas that you always think you could have come up with yourself! I paid £5 online for this item. The Aquatine is a collapsible water bottle. It folds down to under a third of its full height, 13cm down to 3.8cm. When fully ... extended this bottle will hold up to 500ml of liquid. It is re-usable and machine washable. It's aim is to help the environment by cutting down of the amount of plastic water bottles that get thrown away. This was mainly bought as a bit of a novelty item but has proved to be quite helpful. I use it when I run to the gym. It fits comfortably in my pocket and is there ready to use and fill up when I get to the gym. I have also used this in my daughter's lunch box for school. It doesn't take up much room and I know she has a cup when she gets to school. I can also imagine this would be very useful for taking to an office or just carrying around town and filling up wherever you can. At £5 it does seem a bit pricey especially as it doesn't feel like the best quality product. The opening to the bottle is quite large and will rub on your nose when the bottle is tipped up. However I have found it doesn't leak when it is filled up and transported around. It has also cut down on the amount of plastic water bottles I have used but at this moment in time I don't think I will get a new one when this one inevitably breaks or starts leaking. If you are worried about the environment this will appeal to you or if you have limited space. I do think it needs to come down in price a bit and the quality to improve. Read the complete review |
