“ Brand: Davina / Type: Aerobic Step „
I am not one for exercising but I increasingly need to do it. I don't enjoy it and it is last on a long list of things that I would choose to do so I look for ways to make it more different and interesting. I wanted to tone up my thighs and bum, and try to reduce the appearance of my pesky cellulite so I thought a stepper might be the way to. After a quick flick through my trusty Argos catalogue, I chose the Davina Aerobic Stepper which is part of the Davina McCall exercise range.
The product comes more or less ready to go in the box. You have royal blue body of the product which is a thick piece of plastic which a grey oval in the middle. All you have to do is clip the legs onto both sides which is simple to do. The product is 67cm long so there's plenty of room for your feet and a width of 27cm. It has a height of 15cm although this is adjustable. It is lightweight so it's easy to carry around and it is compact so it's easy to store away.
The product will cost you around £19.99. The price will vary greatly so it's worth shopping around. I got mine from Argos and it is also available from a range of online websites.
About the product
The product has been created to give you a cardiovascular workout. The product will work your legs and bum helping to tone and strengthen them. The product is adjustable to allow you to make the exercise easier or harder. The product comes with a little booklet which advises you on the difference activities that you can carry out using the stepper and their benefits, and provides diagrams so that you know what to do.
Using the product
I find that the product is safe and comfortable to use. I use it on the carpet floor of my living but it doesn't feel like it's going to slip from under me as I use it. The plastic, despite being lightweight, is very sturdy and doesn't bend or feel like it's going to give way beneath me, even when I am working really hard. The leg extenders also feel sturdy and don't wobble at all so it feels like a really safe piece of equipment. I find that the product is easy to use and I mostly use it in the standard way by stepping one leg up, then the other and going back down in the same way.
It's not the most exciting way to exercise but if you speed up you do need to concentrate harder so you don't trip. You can also watch the television as you exercise which makes it more interesting. If you work hard enough, fast enough and switch up the exercises then you will feel it the next day. If you continue to use it a couple of times a week, then you should see the effects. My legs and bum did get more toned and I was happy with the results. I have had this product for quite a while now and although I don't use it as much as I once did, it has been used a lot and it is still going strong so I would say that it is good value for my money.
This is easy to use, feels safe and sturdy and looks good. If you use it consistency, you will feel and see the results. It is lightweight and compact, and you can use it when you are watching the television. I am happy with this product and would definitely recommend it.
While I'm more of a fan of running, walking and swimming rather than doing lunges or standing in one place and repeatedly stepping up and down I decided to buy this when I started the thirty day shred exercise plan last month so that I could follow all of the exercise routines properly. I was quite suprised by the amount of different brands available and after a little browsing I bought this one which is from Davina Mcalls sports brand.
I mainly bought it because it was one of the cheapest, to be honest! I bought it from Argos and I paid around £20.00 for it which for a good quality & sturdy piece of exercise equiptment that will last pretty much forever is a bargain in my opinion. Obviously the cheaper (well, free) option would be to just use the stairs but I like to do things properly. Plus, this can be adjusted so that it's jus the right height and I find my house steps too low. This step has a much better grip as well so I don't feel like I'm going to slip or anything.
The step is only available in one colour - blue. I am usually quite fussy with the colour and aesthetics of most items that I buy but as this is such a basic product the lack of colour options and basic design didn't bother me at all. The design is unisex and it is quite cool looking while still being very basic. The step comes fully assembled so I was able to use it straight away. Unfortunately there is no way of collapsing it or making it smaller which considering how bulky it is is a bit of a disadvantage as it takes quite a bit of room up.
It is 67cm wide and the step part where my feet go is 27cm which is a good size and plenty big enough for my feet rather than my toes hanging over the side or anything! I usually use this in the living room while in front of the tv doing my fitness dvd but when I'm not using it I just stick it in the garage. Luckily it is really lightweight and easy to transport from room to room but despite this it's still very sturdy and it holds my weight well. I'm quite light at eight stone but the maximum user weight is 200kg which I think is around 31 stone so it is definitely very strong!! My boyfriend weighs around twelve stone and he very ocassionally uses it and it doesn't creak or anything!
I use this mainly in my living room which has wooden flooring but I always put it on our living room mat just to be on the safe side! It stays in place and doesn't budge even with very fast paced movement such as when I'm doing jumping jacks, jump steps etc. Since getting this I've been using it around three times a week. It is not my favourite way to exercise I must admit and after 10 minutes or so it can start getting a little boring however the leaflet that comes with it helped me learn some new 'moves' to do on this as there is a list of 8 different exercises.
It comes with diagrams but I just typed the name of the exercise into youtube and then just copied the video. The step's height is easy to adjust by removing the leg inserts and I find the highest height best for me. I'm quite active and reasonably fit so haven't noticed a dramatic difference but my leg muscles do feel a little tighter and I feel better in myself for upping my exercise even more. Overall this is a durable, affordable, good quality aerobic step. It is a little bulky but nevertheless I highly recommend it - four out of five stars.
I've had the Davina Aerobic Step for about two years from when I bought a whole load of low-tech fitness equipment for me and my daughter to loose weight and to get fit. I opted for the Davina Aerobic Step just because it was recommended to me by a friend and also the price seemed about right. I bought it from Argos but they are no longer available from there, but I have seen that they are currently available from Homebase for £19.99 - which seems like a decent price.
The step is predominately blue with some grey bits on it as well. It is the traditional step shape with a platform with a gap underneath the step so there is room to tuck your feet underneath before starting the routine. The step is quite large and does take up a lot of space, and so I tend to keep it in the garage when it's not in use. The dimensions of the step are 15cm x 67cm x 27cm and it's not collapsable in any way. It is made of high durable plastic and is very rigid. However, it is also really lightweight and so it's easy enough for me to move from place to place.
The step, at it's highest level, is quite high - and is actually too high for me. However, the height is adjustable and on the lower height it is fine for me. To make the step lower, it's just a matter of removing the grey plastic inserts that are in the legs and then the step will lower by about 5cm and it's more manageable for me. My daughter manages on the higher step level - and so it's nice being able to adjust it to suit both of us. The top is textured and so it's non-slip and so helps you to keep your balance.
There was a leaflet (which I've now lost!!) that came with the box with a number of exercises on it to get you started. However, there are loads of exercises that are on the internet and I just downloaded some and made my own program up.
I think this step is a good piece of equipment to purchase if you are wanting to start an exercise regime.
WHAT IT IS?
An aerobic step endorsed by Davina McCall.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
It's a basic step, made of a thick good quality plastic and adjustable to two heights. It came ready assembled and cost £15 when I bought it two years ago.
The highest height doesn't feel high enough to give my workout a real boost and the step itself is narrower than other steps I have used. I only have size 4 feet and wear very light pumps while exercising but even I felt like I was always on the edge of the step, I think only feet up to a size 7 would be able to stand on this step. It has a non slip top that does work to keep you stable and the step is very sturdy.
It's suitable for people under 17 stone and came with a Davina step DVD, I'm unsure whether this was a special inclusion at the time though as it's the official DVD you'd buy in the shop rather than the usual tacky DVD you find included with this type of product. It's useless anyway as the basic section is too basic to need a DVD for, and the height and narrow top prevented me from trying any of the more vigorous routines as I was worried about misjudging it and falling off.
I didn't use this step for long and it ended up getting in the way as all other aerobic steps do. After my youngest daughter tripped over it I put it in the loft and started using my bottom stair as my exercise step, it's a better height than this one and more than wide enough for my feet!
2 Dooyoo Stars.
==Davina Aerobic Step==
At the moment I am using all my exercise equipment really very well due to the fact that Christmas is only just round the corner and I am bound to be piling on the pounds in the week that I have off from work and I am therefore preparing by trying to loose a few pounds now.
This Davina Aerobic step lives under my bed (with all the other mounds of various home exercise equipment) and does come out on a fairly regular basis. I find the step really good fun to do and not only that but it works my legs very well which is just what I need seeing as this is my area where I am prone to putting on weight and storing my winter supplies!
The step was on a half price offer in Argos at the time I decided to buy it (and to be fair this was probably the only reason I felt that I must have it as I do like a bargain - needed or not!) The usual selling price of the aerobic step is a penny off £20 at £19.99p but as I say I purchased it for half price at the £10 price bracket which is super value for money and well worth getting if it comes up again! Most other name branded aerobic steps such as this are in the £30 price bracket so I certainly feel I got a bargain and am sure I would be able to sell it on for what I paid for it if the fancy ever took me.
The step is easy to use and does fold down slightly for an easier time with storage. The two feet/legs of the step comes away to make it flatter and with this done I can slide it under my bed easily. The feet do need to be put back on in the right way and this is a little bit like a Chinese puzzle and will take me a good deal of time to figure it out.
The step does exactly what it should do with regard to exercise and the rubbery type of topper that the step has makes it super safe and means that I am not liable to slip at all whilst using it.
The only downside that I can find is the fact that the colours are not particularly that great and I would have perhaps preferred something that was a little less garish. Really thought no one but myself sees it and it can easily fit under my bed and therefore I can't see this is a valid reason to mark it down. So with that in mind I feel that nothing but a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a very high recommendation is in order here!
Another top rated piece of home exercise equipment from the Davina range.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read
I needed an aerobic step for a fitness DVD I had bought so I looked to Argos which is where I buy most of my fitness equipment. They had a cheap step which I nearly bought but I decided to go with the Davina one to go with the rest of the Davina equipment I owned and at least that way I would be confident in the fact that it was well made and wouldn't collapse on me when I was doing the exercises.
Although it wasn't the cheapest step available it was really good value just like all the Davina exercise equipment at Argos. It was £14.99 which is a good price when you consider that some sports companies are charging upwards of £30 for what is essentially just a plastic box.
It is made from hard plastic which is really strong and secure feeling. It doesn't creak or flex when you stand on it so you never feel as though you are going to snap it in half when going on and off.
There isn't really any setting up with the step and it works pretty much out of the box. You can adjust the height of the step which if you want a more intense workout and adjusting it is simply a case of removing a little section which goes in and out with ease.
It comes with a little chart showing you what exercises you can do with it. Although I didn't use this as I had a workout DVD for it I thought it was good that for people who weren't really sure where to start there was some sort of guide so they wouldn't have to just step on and off and could vary their routine.
I found that the step was a little smaller than I had imagined and probably wouldn't be suitable if you had very large feet as there would be a risk of slipping off it. For small to average sized feet however it is absolutely fine and my feet have no problem with finding the middle each time I use it.
I never did use this step as much as I had thought I would but that is my fault and not the fault of the step which I think is well made, sturdy and good value for money.
The Davina Aerobic Step:
Recently I went to the doctors with an ankle complaint and got sent to physiotherapy. Turns out I have Achilles Tendopathy which basically means that the tendon in the back of my ankle is weak an needs strengthening, in order to do this I have to perform what is known as eccentric loading which requires the use of a step (as I live in a flat and don't have stairs). I looked at my local Argos and online and this was the not only the only step I could find in stock in Argos but it was also cheaper than any that I could find on Amazon. This step cost me £20 and off I went and picked the step up, it came in a nice little box with some instructions for some basic exercises you can use the step for.
Constructing the step was pretty self-explanatory, in the pack you get the step and a couple of extenders that increase the height of the step. The step itself is a nice blue colour and doesn't look too bad (FYI it is about 20cm high). I haven't got any other steps to compare this one to but it does the job of allowing you to step onto it. I have tried using this step with trainers, with socks and barefoot and I have to say that it is not all that comfortable to use without your trainers on, the weight distribution on your foot on the hard plastic is not great so I would definitely recommend wearing some footwear. So I need the step for this eccentric loading, this basically means dipping my entire weight on my right (weak) ankle then lifting my weight back up on the other foot and then stretching the other ankle again and so on.
I am happy to say that so far the step is working for me and has survived my weight (which is more than it should be) going up and down onto it each day not only this but as a bonus the other ½ also enjoys using the step. Once I got the she knew straight away that she was going to get a step DVD, we got the stomp fx DVD and she has since been using the step to do routines, she also uses trainers but has also found the step very easy to use and we are two very happy customers.
The aerobic step is branded by Davina who has also made a lot of fitness video's and other equipment which has become very popular. The stop is perfect for cardiovascular training and is light-weight and compact. The step itself is blue in colour and the height can be adjusted. It's made from strong plastic and although it looks heavy the step itself is quite light-weight to move. When I first took this item out of the box I was surprised at the length if the step. I didn't read the dimensions before I purchased the item but this didn't bother me as I wanted an aerobic step anyway. The step is already assembled and comes in a cardboard box, inside you will also find a leaflet with some different exercises and advice about the step. Although this is a very simple product to use, it's important to warm up before exercising and always cool down/stretch after exercising to avoid any injury. The leaflet (wall chat) gives you 8 different exercises, as well as diagrams it also tells you how to perform the exercise using the step.
On the bottom of the step where the legs are you will see that there are two grey plastic bits which comes off, these alter the height of the step. These simply pull off and push back in again with minimum effort.
I exercise approximately 4-5 times a week and this step was a fantastic addition to my other exercise equipment. Also this is a piece of simple equipment I can perform lots of exercises to help me strengthen and tone my muscles up. I haven't used any of the exercises on the chat which is given, as I have other exercises I complete using the step which includes the following:
* Box Jumps
* Side Step-Up
* Side Step with Lateral Raise
* Bent-Leg Dip These can be researched on the internet on how to perform these exercises if you are unsure of what they are or have never heard of them before. I was a bit worried about doing things like box jumps on the step but it's very sturdy and doesn't move or slip on the carpet when exercising. Since using the step my leg muscles have especially become more toned than they were before and I feel as though I can exercise for longer now then what I could a few months ago.
I purchased this from Argos for £14.99, this is a lot cheaper than the other aerobic step (Reebok)one which is £39.99. You can also purchase this item from amazon as well.
Size: H15, W67, D27cm
* Lightweight and compact.
* Perfect for cardiovascular training.
* Adjustable height for a varied workout.
There's not much else I can say about this simple piece of equipment apart from that it's very easy to use and is perfect for people who don't do much exercise and want to tone up and are afraid or scared of going to the gym. This can be done in the comfort of your own home and if you use the step regularly using the exercises given you will notice a real difference. Highly recommended!!
