Last year, our gym bought some new medicine balls to use for circuit training sessions. The 5kg balls start at £31.99 which seems a such a simple item. However, you get a piece of kit that's virtually indestructible and should never need replacing (especially if you're only planning to use it in the home). Fitness Mad offer a range of weights which increase in price according to heaviness. We also ordered some 3kg balls, available at £25. The balls use a handy colour coding system to ensure each weight category is instantly recognisable and users can pick the category that's most appropriate to them. Medicine balls are a great way to work key muscle ... Read the complete review

Both my other half and myself have got a lot of use out of this 5kg medicine ball which did not cost us a penny as he got it while doing some work for a gym as it was surplus equipment that was being replaced following a takeover and this one looks pretty much as good as new but they were using branded equipment throughout so it was a great acquisition for us. I tend to use this medicine ball to provide extra resistence when doing stomach crunches and stomach curls, it makes my muscles work that much harder and increases the effect of my work out. A medicine ball is pretty easy to figure out, it is just a weighted ball. You may think that this is far too simplistic to do much to my body, but you are wrong. Simplicity is often the key when it comes to fitness, and this very simplistic invention can easily give a full body workout. It is widely used across the world for all sorts of workouts. They are used by professional fighters and boxers to improve their power behind each punch; they can be used within a normal fitness workout (which increases your fitness quicker than working out without one); they are used to improve "plyometrics" (jumping and core body strength) or 'explosive power'. ... I have mentioned before on this site that I am a fan of fitness at home and over the years have acquired a wide range of equipment to help me in this department and one of the constants throughout the years in my collection has been this Fitness Mad Apollo 5kg Ball. In terms of building a collection of items to use for a home gym then without doubt there is a need for a medicine ball in everybody's collection. In terms of diversity of activity and being something that can give your entire body a workout there is still nothing that can rival this. If you have never heard of Fitness mad before then take my word for it that they are brand leaders in their field, ... Read the complete review

Time and time again I use medicine balls whilst at the gym mainly to assist with ab work. So I decided it was time to get one for my ever growing home gym. This is how I came across the Fitness Mad 5kg Med Ball. I paid £35 for what is essentially a 5 kg ball. The ball comes in a black colour with red stripes (apparently depicting the weight). The ball has a feel of a basketball with similar pimples and outside layer. It is tough and pretty much unbreakable. I have dropped it from head height on concrete without any problems. For me I mainly use them for ab work. I sit down and lift the ball from one side of the hip to the other continuously. I'm ... Read the complete review
