Advantages: Well priced, good brand, easy to grip, well made and designed

Disadvantages: None for me

My son plays football in our local under 9 league and obviously one thing that is imperative is that he stays hydrated during training sessions and matches. For this he needed a decent water bottle and I brought him the Nike sports water bottle from our local Sports Direct store.

I purchased this one for him as it was cheap, but not too cheap as I wanted it to last him and knew that it was likely to be thrown around so I wanted something that would be sturdy and do the job but without spending too many pennies.

This water bottle is available in a few different colours, but I went for the blue one to be traditional (I don't think he would have appreciated the pink one anyway!). It is a standard plastic water bottle which holds around 600ml of water which is sufficient for my son as it's not too heavy for him to carry around with him, but it holds enough water to keep him completely hydrated during the match and he never goes short.

The bottle has a really handy design as it has rubber parts to grip so it doesn't slip through the hands when sweaty and has a tinted spout to make dispensing easier. To refill you simply unscrew the lid, pour the liquid in and screw back shut again so it really is nothing fancy, just a bog standard water bottle but of a high quality.

The bottle is really easy to grip, even with sweaty hands due to the panelling to both sides of the bottle so it won't slip through your hands. This is quite handy for my son, but would be especially handy if out running and carrying the bottle in your hands to keep hydrated. The bottle also has a slightly tilted head which makes it easier to use.

The bottle doesn't have a lid or a push down top or anything similar, just a spout from which the liquid is only dispensed when the bottle is tipped up and liquid taken from in the mouth. Bottles with this type of top have concerned me in the past as I wondered what was actually stopping the bottle from leaking, but whatever it is, all I can say is that it does the job and does it well. So far, we have had no spillages or leaks from the bottle whatsoever and my son isn't exactly careful with the bottle so the idea works well.

As said, we purchased my sons from Sports Direct and we paid £4.00 for it. Yes, you can get cheaper bottles but in my experience they don't stand up to the test well. For a start, my son tends to chew the end which means eventually the bottle starts leaking, or it ends up getting damaged or broken, but this is such a well made bottle that you really can't see it happening with this bottle.

For the label conscious of you, the fact that this bottle is made by Nike, a good quality sports brand and not a cheap make is a bonus. Although my son is only 8, he is starting to become more conscious of what he owns/wears so he was really impressed that his bottle is Nike and not a cheap, tacky make.

Overall, this is a really good quality Sports water bottle that is suitable for both adults and children. It doesn't leak, looks good, has been designed really well to make it easy to use, is easy to grip and is really robust. Although my son has only owned his since the beginning of his football season (end of August), it is showing very little sign of wear and tear which is brilliant. It is easy to clean and does the job well. The fact that it is made by a good quality sportswear manufacturer gives you the confidence that you have purchased a good quality product at a very reasonable price and for that reason, this comes with a recommendation from me.

Summary: A really good water bottle from Nike
