Omron HJ005 Step Counter
Advantages: Simple function, clear display
Disadvantages: Very basic
I walk to university everyday but I used to take buses whenever I want to go someplace else. However, after christmas and all the stuffings I've eaten, I figured that I need to be active more. I thought having a pedometer and something quantitative to measure up against would give an incentive to be more active everyday.
I saw this Omron HJ005 Step Counter on amazon for around £4.50 and thought it's a good price to pay to keep me fit. The product is very lightweight and it has a clip so that I can attach it to my clothes. I wear skirts and shorts (with tights) more often than jeans, but even so I can easily attach this pedometer to my clothes without it being bothersome when I walk. Personally, I attach this step counter to the neckline of my sweater or t-shirts so that it's easier for me to see the step count. However, it should be noted that it is a bit difficult to attach this pedometer if I'm wearing chiffon tops because the material is very thin and the pedometer would drag my top down a little bit even if it's lightweight.
The way the step counts are displayed is well designed as well. It has a clear LCD screen and the numbers are large enough to be seen even if I put the pedometer around my waist. It also has a reset button, which I use daily to compare my 'active level'. Also, if the weather permits, I would take slow jogs around the park near the university and I found that this pedometer is pretty good at counting steps during jogs/runs. To be honest, I'm not a fast jogger/runner so I can't say for sure how this pedometer perform for fast runners.
One thing this product is lacking is the logging system that records how many steps were taken each day for a period of time (i.e. each month). It just does a simple job of counting steps. However, I'm glad that I bought this product. Knowing how many steps I take each day just keep me informed of whether I should just get out of my room and take a stroll around the park. Sometimes, when I get too busy with assignments, I tend to forget to move around and it does affect my concentration. Since I bought this product, I try as much as possible to hit at least 5000 a day, which I found out is not so easy when I have a deadline the next day.
Nevertheless, the product is durable as I've been using this for about three months and a half and have no problem so far. It has yet to freeze on me so I would say it functions well. For what it's worth, it is a good basic pedometer. I would recommend this product.
Thank you for reading. :) x
