Advantages: Help to tone muscles
Disadvantages: None at all
I first bought my Pineapple wrist/ankle weights when I joined an exercise class. They are designed to help strengthen key muscles whilst you are working out. Whilst they are not designed to be heavy weights used to actually tone muscles alone, they do help when partaking in other forms of exercise such as running, jazzercise, aerobics and so on. I had read a bit about them and thought they would be a good idea to make my exercise class that little bit more challenging a swell as helping with general muscle strength.
The weights themselves remind me of larger sweat bands, the ones I bought are pink and grey, however I am not sure if you can get them in other colours or not. The main part of the outside is pink whilst the whole of the inside and the straps to secure the weights in place are grey, they have the word Pineapple written along the strap on each weight. The outside of the weights are made from a tough hard wearing material, to be honest I am not 100% sure this material is, however the insides on the weights (the part which goes next to your skin) is made from terry cloth. The Terrycloth interiors means that the weights are very soft next to your skin and do not rub and make yours wrists/ ankles sore should they move about when exercising. The Terrycloth also makes the weights very absorbent keeping the area you are wearing the weights in feeling fresh and dry, again this prevents the weights from slipping and rubbing against your skin.
The weights are designed to fit around your wrists and ankles, they fasten with a large, strong Velcro style strap, this means that they are fully adjustable so you can have them as tight or as loose as you feel necessary. The weights do not come in several sizes however the adjustable straps means that one size will fit most people. The weights are not fully enclosed and open on one side meaning that they are very easy to slip over your foot or hand, the opening is pulled together when fastening with the strap. I did wonder whether the weights would be a little difficult to stretch over your foot in order to secure them around your ankles, however they are very flexible and with the strap fully loosened I had no problems at all.
I bought my Pineapple weights from JJB, I actually bought them online from their website, they cost me around £9.99 which I thought was an excellent price, when I first decided to look into getting some I thought they were going to be a lot more expensive, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw they would only cost me £9.99. So far they appear to be very durable, the material feels very strong and hard wearing as I have said, and not as if it is going to split from too much pressure. I have used them several times and they look just as good as when I first bought them. I have washed mine by hand, I have not put them in he machine as I am not 100% sure if this would be a good idea, but they looked as good as new once dried, and I was also very impressed at how quickly they did dry, I thought they would take a while as the material is quite thick, however after washing they were fully dried and ready for my next work out.
Wearing the wrist and ankle weights help to strengthen biceps, triceps, hips, thighs and calves, the weights are not so heavy that you will struggle to lift them, but there is just enough weight make your muscles work that little bit harder burning more calories, each weight weights 3lbs. The weights are ideal to wear when running, or doing aerobic style exercises. So far I have been very impressed with my Pineapple ankle/ wrist weights, they have proved to be very successful and I can feel a real difference when wearing them whilst working out compared to if I do not. I cannot say I have noticed a huge difference in my appearance with reference to actual muscle tone, however I can feel that they are making a difference whilst using them. I would definitely recommend these weights to anyone that wants to make their work out that little bit more challenging, and at such a low price they are a bargain.
Summary: Worth the money
