Pineapple Dumbell Set
Advantages: Cheap, good grips, low weight, pretty.
Disadvantages: Weight may become too little.
Trying to mix up my exercise regime a bit (I have been doing zumba almost exclusively for the last year or so) I decided I needed to start doing a bit more weights based activity and also wanted to have a fairly light set for picking up whenever I have 10 minutes to spare to work on my arms (my number 1 disliked part of my body). I saw these while wandering round JJB Sports over the Christmas sales period and as I had a voucher to use I decided to invest.
These are from the Pineapple fitness brand and as such are a lovely pale pink colour. I paid £7.99 for this set which I felt was pretty good value for money (especially as I had a £5 voucher so effectively they only actually cost me £2.99).
They are only 2.5lb or 1.3kg each so are relatively lightweight - but this suits what I want them for as I do not want to build muscle, only to tone up what I have. I find this weight is about right for me at the moment (having not done any weights work in a while) and I am enjoying the resistance I get from doing around 40 reps on each arm in various positions. I can certainly feel the effects the next day but not so much that I know I am overdoing it.
The shape of these dumbells is very ergonomic and the middle bit which you grip is nicely ribbed to ensure that they do not slip but are firmly held easily. The ends are rounded rather than flat and one end has the Pineapple logo embossed on it and the other end has the weight embossed. To be honest if they did do these weights in a slightly higher band (say 4/5lb each) I would probably invest to continue toning as at this weight I know I will probably find they are not enough once basic toning has been achieved - but my local JJB only had them in this size.
Pineapple seem to specialise in good value workout equipment aimed at women (in pastel colours and smaller weights) and for me this is a brand I know and trust. These weights are exactly what I was looking for and I love them, I would recommend them as a starting point for anyone wanting to commence with toning the arms.
Summary: A great entry level set of dumbells to start working on your arms with.
