Advantages: comfortable, durable, safe, looks pretty, good value, handy carry bag
Disadvantages: pale colour shows marks, fraying on inside of bag
Pineapple is a leading supplier of exercise equipment and clothing, specialising in the area of dancewear. I came across this yoga mat in the January sales one year where I picked it up for a bargainous £4.99, which I believe was half the RRP. I bought this in my local Debenhams department store, but there are many other retail outlets stocking Pineapple goods.
This is a simple exercise mat that has a foam-like consistency. It looks gorgeous, and is very girly with the mat being a pretty pink colour with a simple white logo across the top side. The underside is plain. The mat has a grid pattern of indented lines that provide you with a safe-non slip area that will grip the floor. This is perfect for using on my wooden floorboards and allows me to exercise at home in comfort without taking any risks.
The mat is a good large size, measuring 5.5' long and 2' deep. It is very thin and not at all bulky. It rolls up easily and comes with a cylindrical bag to store it away and make it easy to transport if you are taking it to the gym or an exercise class. The bag is a matching pink colour, with a black Pineapple logo across it. The top end zips undone and allows you to slot the mat inside. It is roomy and there is plenty of space to slip the mat in without having to roll it too tightly. The bag has a long webbing strap that is adjustable for length depending on your personal preference.
I've been using this yoga mat for at least 18 months and it has performed consistently well. It can be stowed away neatly in the bag when not in use, and when laid out flat on the floor it remains in place without budging and doesn't fold back up on itself. It can take a little pressure to press the ends down in place when you first put it down, but this is just due to it being rolled up in the bag and the edges retaining a slight curve.
The mat is lovely and soft considering it is so thin, and it feels comfortable against bare feet. It is perfect for exercises such as yoga or aerobics, and I also use it for dance practice when I want to do floor work moves without laying straight on the hard wooden floorboards that are in my living room. It is very lightweight and can be transported hassle-free, the bag is especially handy for travelling with it as you can just tuck it over your shoulder and out of the way, it's not at all cumbersome.
I have experienced only 2 minor problems with this item. 1, being that when I have worn ballet shoes and used the mat it has sustained a few scuffs and stains. No big deal as it is best used with bare feet and this has not impacted upon the item's durability and performance overall. 2, the material on the inside of the bag has begun to fray around the edges of the seams. It looks like the edges have been overlocked but it appears that the nature of the fabric still allows it to fray in some areas. This is not integral as the structure of the bag is still complete and the wear is not in any load bearing areas, it is mainly around the top section near where the zip is.
The Pineapple yoga mat has been reliable for many repeated uses when exercising and I think it is an essential piece of kit for anyone who wants to exercise at home. I would certainly recommend it as it has proved to be value for money and is a good quality item.
