Advantages: Good to help with your toning
Disadvantages: Colours aren't so good (not that it matters!)
~*~ What are these?! ~*~
These things are handweights, they are neoprene coated chunks of iron, which make them apparently easier to hold on to. They are the same things pretty much as you'll find in the gym... They come in different sizes from 0.5kg up to 5kg, and so vary in colour depending on the size of the weight. They are a great handheld weight to boost your exercise regime, and don't cost the earth!
~*~ But are they any good? ~*~
In the gym I was using something very similar to these, made by Reebok just of a different design - but essentially do the same thing. The size of these weights I was quite surprised at actually they aren't anywhere near as big as you'd think, I have the 4kg version and the handle I would say will only just about fit my hand in with not a lot of space to spare. So if you've got big hands you might find it hard work - but then again you could always just go for the barbells instead of these mini dumbells
The neoprene covering, is very good for keeping hold of the weight - I think potentially if you were to get a bit sweaty during your work out they might get a tiny bit slippery but not enough to make you drop them anyway. My complaint about this neoprene covering which is Reebok's doing to be far, is the colours, they're not exactly what you'd call nice coloured, mine is 4kg and it's dark grey it's a disgusting colour, the 5kg is black.
These hand weights do their job quite nicely you can even sit in your living room having a quick work out, on your arms while you're watching the television. Or add it to your run on the treadmill it will help to tone up your arms even more - or you could even use them like I do to tone up by using it as a trainer for your oblique muscles in your abdomen. It's a great weight even if you start off with the 0.5kg weight, and work your way up - just remember the colours get worse as you get higher up the weights.
The weights are really durable if you happen to drop them, the covering on mine looks like it's barely been used apart from a bit of a nail mark in the handle where I gripped it too tight and I've had mine a few months now. So if you are looking for a bit of extra to keep yourself toned outside of the gym, or just as an addition to your home gym these handweights are a great idea that aren't too expensive, but are great quality as you would expect from Reebok.
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
These handweights are available across all sorts of sites online, I've not found any in shops though which is a shame, but I ordered mine from Amazon, a 4kg weight for £12.98 with free delivery, which considering the weight is good value.. There are also all the other weights on amazon at varying prices from around £3 for the 0.5kg weight up to around £15 for the 5kg weight, they do all come as a single though so you need to buy two for a pair. They are also available on boots online I've noticed, so you can get some boots points if you don't mind paying for postage, as you can't pick them up in store!
Summary: A great addition to a home gym or just for a bit of extra toning while working out
