Advantages: Easy to use, useful for leg exercises.

Disadvantages: Expensive if you have to pay full retail price - look out at car boots.

I have used steps in gyms and at home over the years and after an unfortunate accident with home one whilst moving house (it got squished at the bottom of a pile of furniture in the removal van and cracked in the middle) I had been planning on replacing it for some time. This became more of a priority when I started having physiotherapy on my knee earlier this year and was given a lot of exercises which required step type movements.

Living in a flat I do not own any stairs and unless I wanted to use the communal hallway stairs (um...not really) having a step is the only way to do this safely. This Reebok step can be picked up for around the £45 mark online but I actually bought mine for £5 at a car boot sale - and I would always recommend looking out for this kind of equipment at such sales because you would be surprised what people want to get rid of and what price they will accept!

Anyway, this is literally an oblong step made of a very hard plastic resin, it has grippers on the bottom to prevent it slipping and sliding around on hard surfaces (although I use mine on carpet where it is not an issue). The step is pink on top - just like in the photo- and has the Reebok sign in the middle, I notice online that you can also get this step in blue if that has more appeal.

The height of the step is adjustable and the feet can be removed and re-built to three different heights (15cm, 20cm and 26cm) which is very useful. For most of my physio exercises I use the highest step level but for other workouts the lower ones are great.

This is a fairly basic bit of kit but you would be surprised the amount you can tone up your legs and thighs with such a simple thing, I use mine a lot and would not be without it - keep your eyes peeled at car boot sales if you fancy picking up a bargain like I did!

Summary: A simple but effective method of toning those legs.
