Advantages: comfortable, easy to hold

Disadvantages: lid was a bit stiff at first

I've never been a fit person, I was always the kid who "accidentally on purpose" forgot the PE kit or the kid who soon worked out that the quicker you are out on a bleep test the more time you have to sit and watch the other fools get tired.

Being an active fundraiser organising charity events I decided in May 2011 to enter the London Marathon. I was offered a golden bond place and then started to panic. I mean I couldn't run a bath without drama how on earth was I going to manage a 26.2 mile marathon?

So I started to go out weekly for a long walk and a short run to start building up my fitness. I carried a 500ml cola bottle with water or weakened juice. it was great until I had to twist the lid each time I needed a drink...and then of course there was the issue with holding it.

I then looked around online and found the Rucanor water bottle for £4.30 on Ebay. It seemed like a decent size and conveniently shaped. The first time I took it out on a run I was very impressed with the ergonomic design and overall feel. It didn't hold much liquid (300ml) but was ideal for a training run.

I stopped on a grass verge to pull the lid up... but it was so stiff I ended up having to use my teeth. It was awkward at first but I soon got the hang of it and lifting the lid with my teeth was pretty natural.

The bottle is well balanaced and comfortable to hold. It is suited to its purpose very well and I will certainly have my bottle with me in April when I run my first marathon.

Summary: An ideal bottle for both novice and experienced runners
