I bought this skipping rope last summer, while looking for a few cheap bits and bobs to spice up my exercise routine. Having bought a hoola hoop and some weights, the USA PRO skipping rope was the perfect addition. I do a circuit routine which stops it getting boring and keeps me fit.
The skipping rope comes in a plastic packet with some information on USA PRO. Mine is pink and dark purple but there are other colours available.
The rope part is dark purple, and made of tough plastic. It has a diameter of 0.5cm and is quite long. The handles are pink plastic, with a purple foam cover, making them comfortable to hold, and they don't get slippery if you suffer with sweaty hands. The end of each handle had USA PRO written in gold text.
I am 5'6" and it is a bit long for me, so it made for taller people, not children. As the ends of the handles can be unscrewed, I did this, pulled the rope through, folded it and pushed the folded part back into the handle, shortening each side by about 3 inches, making this skipping rope closer to the right length for me.
Skipping is great fun, it really gets your heart rate up, and can be done almost anywhere, in any weather! Thanks to the length of this rope you can even use it with three people, two holding the rope and one jumping over it, like we used to do in school.
The usa pro skipping rope is available from Sports Direct and Amazon, at a very good price of £1.99. I award 4/5 stars, as the skipping rope is strong and good value, but a bit too long for most people.
I have been trying over the past few months to purchase some inexpensive exercise equipment to help me to get in shape without breaking the bank. But I also have the problem of a lack of storage space for larger pieces of exercise equipment such as an exercise bike or running machine, so I need to be able to store them away in a cupboard with ease and be able to use them in my front room.
This is when I came across a US Pro Jump rope in the shop, it was on special offer for £3 so for that small cost I thought it was worth a try.
I find the jump rope easy to use as you can use it inside in the winter and in the summer I can also use this in the garden. A skipping rope seems like something that you only used when you were a child in sports day but boxers use skipping ropes as part of their training. It is great for a cardio work out as it helps with fat burning, whist also shaping and toning the legs.
The jump rope that I have is black and has pink handles, but since purchasing this I have come across other USA Pro Jump Ropes in a range of different colours. Which is great if you are a man that not a fan of pink.
The great thing about this jump rope is that the rope turns with ease inside the handle, which makes jumping the rope a lot easier there are some ropes I have seen some where the rope do not moves and this make it a lot harder to skip for a longer periods of time as the ropes end up getting tangled up, which means you waste time stopping and restarting, instead of just a quick continuous workout.
This is a perfect jump rope that has a great length with a plastic rope which also makes the rope a lot easier to use as it has some weight to it, using a child's skipping rope made from rope is a lot lighter and harder to skip with for a longer period of time at speed.
I had some advice from a friend who is a fitness instructor and he recommends that you skip on the balls of your feet with your knees slightly bent. As jumping flat footed is not good for your knees and also wears you out a lot quicker.
When I started using the USA Pro Jump Rope I would get out of breath after a few minutes so each week I added an extra minute to my skipping time. It's has been a good few months since I started using the jump rope and I am still using it regularly and it still looks and works as well as the first day that I used it.
I have been looking around and you can now get the USA Pro Jump rope from Sports Direct for £1.99 which I think is an absolute bargain and well worth the investment for anyone that wants to try and get into shape after Christmas.
I actually initially bought this as a bit of a 'spur of the moment' thing last summer. We were having a few friends round for a BBQ one weekend and I was just looking around in town for some games and fun things that might keep people amused during the evening. I managed to get some of the cheap Tesco bubble packs that always seem to be a great ice breaker and a laugh, and then I saw this USA Pro Jump Rope in a sports store. My daughter has a cheap Argos Value Skipping Rope which she seems to have tremendous fun with, so I thought buying this adult skipping rope could be interesting, and for only £3.00, I couldn't go wrong. But whilst it proved to be a hit at the BBQ (note alcohol, skipping ropes and a table full of wine glasses are a bad combination), I did start to use the rope on a regular basis for general fitness, and have been doing so for some months.
Interestingly, whilst you see many children skipping around with a rope, it may not seem to be that energetic. But use this 'professional' USA Pro Jump Rope yourself, and very quickly you start to realise that you are getting quite a body workout just doing ordinary skipping on the spot.
What do get? The whole ensemble out of the packet looks quite professionally made, which is quite pleasing considering the low cost of the item. The unisex colouring on the handles adds a professional touch, with the black handles covered with a tough spongy grey foam for comfort. The rope itself is also black and made from a very tightly woven cord which gives it a fair degree of resistance against fraying and abrasion from the ground as you are skipping. The overall length also seems quite adequate for use. I'm quite tall (over 6 foot) and I can comfortably use the rope with no problems.
In use, the rope moves well and smoothly around you as it rotates in the handles. What I have found is that it feels just heavy enough to feel like you are getting a bit of a workout from it, but not so much that it is going to do some damage to you if you jump wrong and it hits you in the legs or the back of your head. The grips are also comfortable to hold for some duration, but the foam will get a bit damp from sweat, which, after time, could start smelling. To get around this I just wash the grips down after use in a bit of soap and water and then let them dry naturally, and that seems to have the effect of keeping the foam fresh and looking like new. Likewise, if I'm outside and the rope gets a bit grubby, I've just washed it down and let it dry naturally and that seems to do the trick of keeping it in tip top condition.
So far after a few months of use, it still looks good and shows no real signs of wear and tear. Of particular note is that the rope itself also seems to be very hard wearing, despite quite extended use on a concrete path.
In summary, what can I say? It's a good quality skipping rope with that professional look and feel, all for only £3.00. Hence, easily a 5* recommendation.
Over the years, I seem to have built up a huge collection of jump ropes, and I only recently sorted them all out and I am now down to owning just the one, as lets be fair, how many can you really use in one go?
One of the many jump ropes I have used over the years is the USA Pro Jump Rope. This is one that was given to me as a gift a few years ago from a friend, and USA Pro is a generally known range of fitness products and clothing. I have used a few of their different products over the years, and I have always known them to be of good quality.
The jump rope has gray handles, with a small black piece at each end, and these handles are made from a thick, foam like material, which is quite sturdy, yet squishy at the same time. It is easy to grip these handles, even when you have been using it for a while and your hands get all wet and sweaty. I have had jump ropes that just slip from my hands when I got sweaty, and this is something that annoyed me a lot, luckily, this did not happen with the USA Pro jump rope, and I feel that this is something that has been taken into account when this jump rope was designed.
The rope itself is black, and looks more like cord rather than rope, and it appears to have a woven pattern on it, which I think has been done to add extra strength to the rope, to stop fraying, snapping or other problems that would render the rope useless. I found that after a lot of use, there was no problems with this rope, and it still looked new a couple of years after buying it.
The rope does get dirty occasionally, but this is easy to clean. I usually just dip it into some soapy water and then leave it to air dry. The handles are cleaned in the same way, as these can get a bit smelly, due to the sweating, dead skin and dirt that is pushed upon them.
The rope length is actually quite good, and I found it to be perfect for my height. I am 5'5" and this rope is not too short for me to jump over, but not so long that I get tangled in it. I usually have to wrap the rope around my hands once or twice, just to keep the length exactly as I need it, but this is nothing major and I have had to do much more with other jump ropes.
The rope is nice and light, so spinning it to jump over is no worries what so ever and it takes a minimal effort, which leaves me to concentrate on the actual jumping. It is a great way to workout, and this jump rope helps to make it simple and easy to jump rope, but the rest of the effort is of course, up to you!
I like to keep fit, so using jump ropes is a great way to add fitness and lose weight, but sadly this is something I can not take part in very often any more, due to having knee surgery and my knee not taking much shock very well any more. I can only do jump rope for a short amount of time before pain sets in, so I ended up getting rid of all but 1 of my jump ropes.
If you want to buy yourself a good quality jump rope at a good price, you can buy this USA Pro Jump Rope from Sports Direct and other general sports store for £2.50. I have seen it in some places for anything up to £5, but I paid £2.50 for mine and most places still have it for this price. It comes in a plastic casing, which is easy to open, and if you want to keep it to store the jump rope in, then this is quite an ideal casing to do that with.
I really think this is a good product, and I am quite happy to recommend it to others, whether it be for serious workouts, or the occasional fun, this is a good jump rope at an ideal price. I give this product a 5 out of 5 stars.
We already had a skipping rope for a few years but unfortunately that one broke so we had to get a new one. A skipping rope always sounds so childish and very girly but it's actually a really good work out. You always see people using one who are training for boxing. It's a great way to lose weight but also to enhance your coordination, agility, quickness, footwork and endurance.
A skipping rope is also very cheap and you can do it at the comfort at your own house. The USA Pro Jump Rope cost around 3 pounds which is really cheap. The rope is large enough for an adult to work out with. When you are using the rope make sure you put your feet in the middle of the rope and that your hands with the handles can reach up to the armpit height. This rope is designed for people who want to work out and you can feel that in the quality. It's feels strong and the handles feel secure and are comfortable. The whole rope feels light and easy to use.
When you are going to start jumping make sure you have enough place around you but also it's recommended to jump on a soft shock absorbent surface. I have a mat which really helps and also prevents the neighbours going to complain about the noise!
I love working out with the skipping rope because you almost use every muscle in your body and especially the calf muscles and your abs. The first time I workout with the skipping rope, the next morning everything hurts so I could tell that it works. This skipping rope is ideal and is strong, feels secure but is also comfortable to use. You don't want to spend too much money on a skipping rope so the 3 pounds is a good price!
~ Tell me all about it! ~
Our USA Pro Jump Rope was a product we bought to replace a different jump rope that we bought after a visit from a professional skipping display team, that sent the kids crazy all wanting skipping ropes. We originally bought one of the professional style jump ropes from them on the day of the display, but it seemed to have gone astray when we looked for it recently.
The USA Pro Jump Rope seemed a reasonable replacement for the one we had lost and was much cheaper to buy. We paid just £2.99 for the rope and felt that was about its maximum price. Compared to the professional rope we did have this isn't as good at all, but it is still much better than some of the old fashioned wooden handled rope based jump ropes that you can buy.
When wanting to review this it wasn't listed on Dooyoo, but after a product suggestion it has been added here to allow me to share my thoughts about it. When we bought the rope it came attractively packed in a clear plastic pack which allowed us to see what we were purchasing prior to parting with our pennies. The product looked to be of a reasonable quality with a nice set of soft and foamy handles and a slim black skipping rope.
Once out of the pack our USA Pro Jump Rope had enough rope to allow even an adult to skip without getting caught up in the rope. There was just the right amount for a taller child or medium sized adult to use effectively without causing tripping or catching. When I used the jump rope I found it easy to hold and handle, if a little light. The rope moved around my body easily and the handles gave plenty of grip and didn't slip out of my hands.
Most importantly the USA Pro Jump Rope proved to be a hit with the kids who used it as much as they did the previous one. Although this rope is of a lesser quality than the rope we had, it was much cheaper to buy and so I feel that we got good value for money from it. The colours used are subtle, with simple black handles and a plain back plastic rope. This means that anyone can use it without it looking like it was for a man, woman of child in particular. The pack does have some lilac on it but that could be removed and doesn't impact on the look of the actual rope.
Our USA Pro Jump Rope can be sponge cleaned if needed but should not be completely washed. We haven't had to do much at all with regards to maintaining it, other than to check the handles are ok and make sure the rope is attached correctly. We find thats easy to do as the black screw on bases of the handles can be unscrewed and the ends of the rope can be accessed from there. If the rope is a little long you can also adjust the length via the same opening which looks easy enough to do.
~ How would you rate this? ~
As far as giving the USA Pro Jump Rope a product rating I feel it is a budget product that works well. It isn't as good as the professional jump rope we had, but it is a useful replacement that was much cheaper to buy. It performs well enough but is a little light. Other than that it is more than adequate for the purpose we bought it for, so it gets a 4 star product rating. The USA Pro Jump Rope would be suitable for adults users as well as for taller children, but could be adjusted to suit a smaller child if wanted.
