Kingston DataTraveler 101 8 GB
Advantages: Inexspensive, good storage
Disadvantages: none really
A couple of years ago my laptop broke and although i was annoyed i needed to buy a new one I didn't think much of it until a couple of days later I realized I had lost all my files and pictures. I was absolutely devastated as I had some pictures that meant a lot to me that were now lost forever and I couldn't believe I was so stupid not to have backed them up.
Ever since then I have become slightly OCD in regards to backing things up on my laptop and have a multitude of flash drives and online storage to make sure it never happens again.
The Kensington Datatraveler 101 is a cheap and cheerful flash drive that is perfect for storing you pictures and files on so you always have a back up on an external source.
It is extremely small and available in a few different colours, the USB part is protected inside a metal casing that you push and swivel to reveal the USB for connecting to your laptop. There is no lid for the USB which I find good as I am always losing the lids and because the size is so small it is perfect for carrying around with you. As it is so small I always have to put it somewhere I will remember so as to not lose it in the mess that is my flat.
It is really easy to use you just connect the USB to your computer and it shows up as an external storage device and you have to then just drag and drop files or cut and paste them and that's it really your files are now securely backed up. The speed is ok, it's not the fastest flash drive I have ever used but it's not the slowest either, a couple of hundred pictures will only take a few minutes to transfer so it's not too bad.
The datatraveler is available in a few different sizes from 2GB to 16GB. I find the 8GB is more than enough memory for all my pictures and personal videos but if you need more or less memory then they are available.
There is not really much more to say about the Kingston datatraveler 101, it's a good little flash drive for a good price that does exactly what it says on the tin. They are widely available and you can buy one from lots of different online and physical shops and they range in price from £10 to £13 depending on where you buy it and what colour you choose.
Summary: good little flash drive
