Sandisk Cruzer 8 GB
Advantages: Good styling, size and material. Great mechanism for hiding the USB end.
Disadvantages: Can't connect any material to help carry the product.
The 'Sandisk Cruzer 8 GB' is a standard shaped USB flash drive/memory stick/stick drive (whatever you want to call the device) which can store up to 8 GB of documentation, music, film, image, etc. In reality it won't hold this much space because pre-fitted within the stick is software enabling it to connect to different types of computer (loaded with different operating systems and software). The predefined space within the device is only minimal, about 300-400 MB usually - so you hardly notice it, but does bare thinking about if you know you need 8 GB of space for definite.
The USB stick performs well when copying across files and reading files using different compatible platforms. Games consoles, windows computers, macs, televisions and even the new 'raspberry Pi' miniature computer are all compatible products this device can be inserted into. Essentially what this product does to the device with which it is plugged is add memory which you access via that device. This stick will appear as a 'removable disk' in the 'My Computer' area of your PC, though this differs with macs of course.
I like the style of this particular stick. It is simple (as all Sandisk devices usually are), but it has a level of style and sophistication which consumers like to see in products like these - allowing the USB stick to stand out. The colours are quite bland however, making the stick harder to find if lost, and there isn't a hoop to connect a necklace or bracelet to make the product stand out more and be easier to carry on your person.
The main stand out feature of this particular product is its retractable connector, which can be slid back inside the housing of the device to prevent it being damaged in your pocket. I have had sticks break in the past, so this is a necessary addition which offers that extra level of protection in the most vulnerable and important area. The slider function on the device is smooth to operate and doesn't increase the size of the product at all, so if anything the stick is smaller than other alternatives of the same GB size.
All in all this standard 8GB 'Sandisk Cruzer' is as good as any I've seen, and though it is VERY similar to the Slice model I reviewed earlier I prefer its looks and feel it is slightly more practical than the other. The sloding mechanism is easier to use and the styling of the product is more appealing I believe.
Summary: A fine USB stick for every-day use.
