“ Sony Micro Vault Tiny - USB flash drive - 1 GB - USB „
This is a brilliant drive for somebody looking for an extremely small and portable storage option. However, you should explore other options if you aren't looking for this. The device is easy to use, compact and colourful, but easy to lose and without a USB cover, the connector can become easily damaged. Also, the device is very expensive, compared to other devices on the market.
First, the packaging is very good, with clear text. It also protects the product well, and is very easy to open. The included instructions are simple, and easy to read.
The design is very nice, and attractive. It's also very small and compact, meaning it is the great portable option. It can fit anywhere. However, this means that it is very easy to lose, and the lack of a USB cover means that the USB connector can become easily damaged. Then, the device won't work, and anything contained on the device will be lost forever.
Also, the speeds on the device on very slow compared to other products on the market. This isn't that bad if you are transferring documents, but for bigger files, such as video this isn't a good option. With the 1GB capacity in mind though, it won't fit many video files, so this isn't as important as it would be on bigger drives.
The build quality of the device is very good, with a sturdy device that feels like it will last. With the trusted Sony brand, the hardware will be high quality as well. However, with the small size, it feels like the USB connector could easily snap off, if it was pulled.
The device as the same features as any other drive, but also includes Sony's Virtual Expander program. This compresses files when they are saved to the device, which gives you 4x more memory. However, not all computers and photo machines can read this, meaning that you could be disappointed. The smaller size means that it can also fit any side of the USB connector, meaning no messing about and wasting time as you try to figure how the device plugs in. However, with no support, it is easy for the device to be moved, so it becomes disconnected.
Also, the cost is very high. As it is much higher than other devices on the market, it isn't a good option unless you need the small size, as the device has a small capacity and is slower than similar products.
Overall, the perfect option for somebody looking for the most portable option, but other users should look elsewhere.
I love this memory stick...I saw it online last year and thought the tiny memory stick and gorgeous pouch would be the perfect accessory for University. The memory stick is Tiny! Its really thin and around 2.5cm by 1.5cm it is so much nicer than my old bulky memory stick. I asked for this for Christmas 2007 and I have to say this has been my most used Christmas present.
The memory stick makes my want to do work just to be able to save stuff to it. The 1GB memory stick is blue and comes with a blue rubbery pouch meaning i can attach it to my keys or bag. This is great as it saves the bother of turning up at the library and realizing I've forgot my memory stick (I'm a real klutz). The memory stick comes with decorative stickers to personalise the stick, I've used the leopard print one. The different MB sized memory sticks come in different colours. I love the green 2GB stick but its simply not necessary for me. The 'Sony Micro Vault' comes with 'Virtual Expander' which compresses the files and expands them again when you open them.
The one slight problem with this memory stick is that due to its tiny size it is easy to forget about it and leave it in the machine however with the decorative sticker and the small LED it is a little easier to notice.
I love this memory stick and it has many people shocked at how small it is and asking where I got it from!
I bought this memory stick a couple of months back and loved it. It is great value for money, and although I had read in previous reviews that the file transfer rate was slow, I didn't find this was the case at all. Unless you are transferring a number of large files I think this is perfectly adequate.
I thought the carry case that came with it was great as you could attach it to your keys or bag etc. The only thing was that I thought it might fall out due it just slotting into a pocket; but I needn't have worried because you do have to use some force to get it out the case, it won't just fall out! My favouite thing about this memory stick is the size and design of it. They come in interesting colours (depending on the memory size) and they are so small you wouldn't think it could hold so much data! The only thing I would warn users of is not to leave it in the computer (as I did) because you forget it's there and don't notice it because it's so small! I will definately buy another one though :)
I first bought my micro vault tiny over a year ago when it was yet to be released in the UK. In fact I bought mine off Ebay, it came all the way from Hong Kong, China and took ages to arrive.
I was first attracted to this memory stick because of its size; its tiny!! Ultra thin and around 2.5cm by 1.5cm it is far more attractive than regular memory sticks. The product is also available in many memory sizes with corresponding colours and even comes with decorative stickers! It also comes with a protective carrying pouch in a matching colour; I found this very useful as it even has a small cord and can attach to a phone like a phone charm.
The technical features of this memory stick are pretty much identical to any other memory stick on the market. The device requires no installation and can be used in with any laptop/computer with USB ports. However, as this device is ultra thin it doesn't fit into the USB port exactly the same; you have to figure out which way up it goes as unlike normal USB pens it will fit in the port any way. A 1GB memory holds around 250 mp3s and sereval photos; unfortunately I can't advise as to how many photos this device will hold as the amount of memory space they take up varies on the number of pixels.
Being a 'Sony Micro Vault' this memory stick also includes 'Virtual Expander'. A program already installed onto the device which compresses files by 4, this means that the memory stick can hold up to 4 times as much as the memory says, as it compresses files during saving and expanding the files when they are opened. However, you should be wary when using this as I found some computers icluding library ones as well as photo machines don't run the virtual expander program meaning you are unable to open them if you have compressed them using the 'virtual expander' program.
Overall I think this memory stick is pretty good, looks wise it is fantastic as it is slim, compact and attractive. It is available from many websites including amazon for around £10 (price varies on memory size).
