Kingston 2 GB microSD
by alexandjef
When I'm looking to buy a new memory card for my phone, I scour the internet to find the cheapest possible - as far as I can tell from reviews and with my own experience, there is very little difference in terms of quality. I might be wrong, but I've tried various makes of removable memory card and all have worked in exactly the same ... way.
------MEMORY CARDS AND MICROSD-------
Nowadays many things have the capability for data storage - most noticeably phones and digital cameras. Some come with built in storage, some come with a slot to add easily add storage but most devices usually come with both.
The days, having room for heaps of data on a mobile phone is essential. If your anything like me you'll be using your phone to play music, take photos, play game and sometimes even carry work around with me - all these things need to be stored somewhere on the phone.
Memory cards are used to add additional storage to mobile phones - usually anything from an extra 2gb up to an extra 32gb, and these memory cards are getting Moore and Moore (geddit'?) smaller every year. We have reached the point where memory cards such as this one are tiny and cheap - less than a 1p piece in size and available new for under £3, used being available for under a quid.
This is great value. You get a new phone its has only 8gb of memory, say, and for less than a pound you can carry around an another 100 or so songs.
-------THE PROBLEM WITH MEMORY CARDS-------
As tech changes, everything changes in size and shape and compatibilty comes an issue. Memory cards are no exception. A few years ago the standard size for a memory card was about the size of a 50p piece, and now they are much smaller - meaning phones and memory cards over the years have become less compatible with each other. Now if you buy a phone it will more than likely have a MicroSD slot, where as a couple of years ago it would have had a MiniSD slot. This particular memory card is a MicroSD card meaning its compatibe with most new tech, but unless you have an adapter its not with older stuff.
Luckily compatibility is helped with adapters - but these only really go one one way - to make newer cards suitable for older ports. This memory card, included in its £3 price tag comes with a MiniSD adapter, meaning you put the MicroSD card into the MiniSD adapter and it then fits into the more widely found (due to it being around longer) MiniSD slot. This slot is found on many computers and card readers - the MicroSD is not that widely found yet.
So, this card is great value for under £3 but you need to be sure you have something compatible to use it with obviously. Check your phone or camera is using MicroSD or MiniSD - with the adapter this will work with both.
------USE AND RELIABILITY------
As I mentioned I have not noticed much difference between brands, none infact. They all seem to work in the same way to the same level and I've never had any of them break. This card is identical to any other MicroSD card by another brand - the only difference being that this comes with an adapter, something I needed.
As with all other memory cards, its easy to use. Either use the data cable to connect you camera or phone to your PC via USB and wait for the device to be apparent. You'll then be able to chose the device internal memory or this external memory and from there you can add and remove as you wish.
Or, using the adapter you can plug you card directly into your PC if your PC has a memory card slot, or you use an adapter and then the card will pop up under My Computer ready to be used. Its a very simple process.
------VALUE FOR MONEY-------
This is great value for money - both as a standalone product and against rival memory card manufacturers. This brand of card is usually the cheapest if buying new, however all seem to be dirt cheap buying second hand. The price goes up as the capacity goes up, but Kingston still seems to stay on top. I picked this up off Amazon and even including the bewildering delivery charge (is such I guess when they have flat rate) of almost £3 to delivery a tiny piece of plastic (I got a huge DVD boxset for £1.28 postage recently) its still great value at about £3.50 in total. You can get them in shops, but retailers will usually cover their overheads and them some, making it a bit less value for money
Overall, if you are looking for cheap memory this is a no brainer - does the job at the best price Read the complete review |

Kingston 2 GB microSD
by TRGTspecialist
I have two of these cards - one of them a few years old and the other a few months old - and they haven't let me down yet. It has quite a small capacity by today's standards - I needed them for my Nintendo DS flashcart, which only accepts 2GB cards however, so this wasn't a consideration for me, but there are certainly much larger Micro ... SDs you can get nowadays. Although as a result a 2GB card is VERY cheap now, so if you only need a small amount of storage, this is a perfect choice. The most important thing though is that this card works - I haven't had a single problem with either of the cards I've bought, despite having to transfer data between them and the PC on a frequent basis. The package includes an SD card adapter so you're ready to slot it into a reader immediately, and data transfer has been fast and consistent. Only real worry I've had is, Micro SD really means "micro" - be careful when moving it around, it's easily lost! (This issue applies to all Micro SD cards though, of course).
