In order to support this wide range of applications, the multi media card interface protocol is designed for maximum scalability and configurability. All device and interface configuration data (e.g. maximum frequency, supported modes of operation, memory size, card ID, etc.) will be stored on the multi media card. A high performance 7-pin serial interface (SPI) allows for easy integration into any design, regardless of microprocessor utilized.

With a form factor of 32mm high by 24mm wide and 1.4mm thick, it is the ideal size for small, thin portable devices, such as pagers and phones. This form factor is part of a new, open standard.
