These XD digital memory cards are used for storing images, data and voice files and are suitable for use with cameras and PDAs.
I have had the Fuji 256mb XD card for about a year now and have never had any problems with it.
The cards generally come with a five years guarantee included.
It says on the packaging to format the card before use but my card didn't need formatting as it worked straight out of the pack for me.
As it is Fuji branded I was confident it would be trouble free and I have another three Fuji XD cards that have also been trouble free.
On the packaging it says that the number of images that can be stored will depend on the model of camera and the complexity of the scene being photographed.
Checking the original packaging I have found that the guide on the back of it varies greatly from the amount of pictures that will actually fit onto my camera with the 256mb XD card inserted.
The packaging states that using high resolution jpeg mode approximately 80 photos can be taken at 6M, 213 photos at 3M and approx 284 photos at 2M.
This is mysterious because using my Fuji camera with this Fuji 256mb card I can get a lot more photos on the XD card.
I have a Fujifilm E550 6.3 megapixel camera and below I am using the information displayed by my camera as a guide to how many pictures the Fuji 256mb XD card should hold. I assume all these numbers are correct as Ive taken it on holiday and actually taken 169 on the 6M setting. I dont tend to use the lower resolution settings so I havent checked them.
With the 256mb Fuji XD card inserted I can take:
169 pictures on the 6M setting,
325 pictures on the 3M setting,
409 pictures on the 2M setting,
1997 pictures on the 0.3M setting,
My camera also does video and the display says the card will hold:
Just under 5 minutes of video & sound at 640x480 resolution
or 7 minutes and 19 seconds of video & sound at 320x240.
I know the available time displayed is correct as I have used the video function.
Overall I think the 256mb storage capacity is good enough for most purposes.
I dont know for sure how many photos the card will hold with other types of camera.
I think I should mention that two of the other XD cards I purchased are the larger 1gb capacity and they only cost me £25 each.
The larger cards can hold four times as much data so I think they are a better buy now they have come down in price.
I believe some older Fuji cameras cant take the bigger cards so Id check first if you arent sure.
The Fujifilm xD-Picture Card is now superseded by the newer xD-Picture Type M and H cards. This card is still the only card type to be used with the FinePix cameras F700 and M603.
