Integral 2 GB SD Memory Card
Advantages: Small, cheap. Does the job.
Disadvantages: None for me.
I remember the first PC we had. It had 1 GB memory, and I am sure that at the time that must have seemed huge. It really puts things into persepective when you can carry twice that much on a little plastic card, the size of a stamp! I use thse cards in my digital camera and DS, though they have many uses, including use in PDAs, MP3 players and HD camcorders, to name but a few.
The prices are coming down on this form of storage. A few years ago £15 was cheap for a 1GB memory card. Nowadays you can get a 2GB Integral card from Amazon for a mere £5.14, which I feel represents excellent value, as it can store a huge amount of photos and videos before you need to buy a new one.
The current card I am using in my camera has been in use for over a year. It slots neatly and easily into a small slot in the battery compartment of my camera. I currently have 478 photos stored on the card and several short videos and there is still more than half of the memory capacity of the card left. This means that this particular card will last me a couple of years before i need to buy a new one.
Once data has been stored on the card, it is easy to retreive. Some devices have special SD card readers which take information directly from the card. My computer does not have this function, but if I plug my camera in via the USB lead, I can use the computer to access my files, photos videos and music. For photos, you also have the option of taking the card to a shop with a printing machine, such as Boots or a local chemist, where you can inset the card directly into the machine and print your photos off that way.
For me, and SD card is a lot more convenient than trying to store loads of thick photo albums. The card comes with a lock, so if you slide the plastic lock down, it will prevent files being accidentally wiped from your card. My camera also has a "protect" function wich will prevent certain pictures from being erased from the card, although it is always a good idea to back up your files on the computer.
How you use the card is a matter of personal choice. I know people who use them as an intermediate device for temporarily storing files before they put them onto computer or print them out. Such people will then wipe the SD card and start again. Others (like me) will keep their full SD cards safe in their plastic covers and filed away in a drawer like a tiny photo album. Because of their cheap price I can't see the point in being stingy and using the same card over and over again!
I have never had any problems using this SD card and I would gladly give it 5 stars. It is small, easy to use, stores lots of information and is a very good price. I have never lost or damaged any files or pictures using this medium of storage.
