Advantages: Ultra High Capacity

Disadvantages: Micro SDHC won't work in all devices

AS electronic devices get smaller and smaller, so do the memory cards which are designed to fit in them. Nowadays, instead of accepting SD cards, mobile phones and other portable products often utilise 'Micro SD's' - which are exactly one-quarter of the size of their big brothers. To make it clear, these little cards are roughly the size of the fingernail on your little finger, and are incredibly easy to lose.

To confuse you even more, there is now a new format of micro SD. Known as 'SDHC' (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards, they look the same as their predecessors, yet they are available in capacities reaching up to an incredible 16GB.

This leads me nicely onto the SanDisk Micro SDHC 8GB, which is what I am reviewing today.

Costing £13.62 from Amazon, the product has a fairly quick read and write speed. That said, it doesn't compare to some of the lightning fast standard SD's which I have owned.

The problem with this, and all the newer micro SDHC cards, is that due to their newness they won't work in all devices which have a micro SD slot. You will also have trouble getting them to work in a normal memory card reader. This isn't a criticism of this individual product, but of the micro SDHC card format as a whole.

SanDisk have created an excellent product which is efficient and reliable, and more than anything else, great value for money. I recommend this card if you have a compatible product, however, if you expect it to work in any device you'll be left disappointed.

Summary: Great Little Card, but needs a compatible device

Mostly, devices just need a firmware upgrade in order to support the SDHC format.

Yes, but, don't SanDisk make adapters for these so that you can slip these into a regular card reader's normal SD slot?
