Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: There are cheaper models around
When I think of a standard electric mixer, I thick of the usual White plastic machine and clear plastic mixing bowl. So when I seen this for the first time I thought it looked great. The design is not overtly feminine nor overtly masculine, it's just stylish and that will be appreciated by both sexes. This mixer is part of the Gordon Ramsay Professional range of kitchen products. It's BATMAN like design won't be suitable for every kitchen, it's probably more suited to a modern kitchen. But could also add an interesting touch to the more traditional home.
It really does look and feel professional it has a sturdy strong construction and the heavy stainless steel bowls add that extra touch of class. The control dial at the back is one of it's more unusual and innovative design features. It's twists very easily just like an egg timer. There are twelve settings in all and this simple design makes selecting the perfect speed and function as easy as can be. The settings can go from the lowest, which is a gentle folding action all the way up too the max, which is a powerful aerating setting.
There are different attachments to suit the task in hand. There is a very useful dough hook, I find this prefect for as the name suggests mixing dough, but also for the thicker cake batters. There is also a whisk attachment and a beater attachment. All of these are made of the best quality materials and it shows, they feel strong and tough like they will last longer on this earth than I will.
This unlike other high end professional mixers comes with two stainless steel bowls. The first is the large, I use this one for mixing cake batter, and will definitely be mixing my Christmas cake mix in this larger bowl as it has a 4.4 Liter capacity. The second bowl has a 2.2 Litre capacity and I find this great for whisking egg whites for meringues. The cool stainless steel is perfect for this use as the Whites whisk up much quicker than in a plastic or ceramic bowl. This is also the case with whipped cream it fluffs up in little too no time at all.
One of the main selling points of this mixer over others was the fact that it has twin motors. This simply means that one of the motors power the mixer, while the other motor independently powers the bowl. This way neither has to compensate for the other and the full power is put into it's intended use. All of the included attachments are colour coded. This I find makes it even easier to use, as they just slot into their matching colour on the mixer head.
Cleaning is fast and simple the bowls wash off in warm soapy water. I find not even the stickiest of ingredients stick to the bowl once plunged into the warm water. The same applies to the attachments, they clean off with a slight shake under some water.
The black, sleek, curved body is easy to clean as are most exteriors of machines like this. Just simply give it a rub with a clean cloth, and if necessary use some light washing up liquid.
It isn't the quietest of machines but it's not unbearably loud either. It makes more noise with the softer ingredients and less with the thicker stuff. It's because of the steel meeting steel, that it can be a little loud. Although I have never used a mixer that is as quiet on the harder to mix items.
This is a bit of a luxury buy, but unlike most, this is actually worth the money.
