Advantages: Add to choice and competiton.

Disadvantages: Not as large a range of product

The Co-op used to have such status; referred to, almost reverentially, as the Co-operative movement. Everyone had their dividend number and more than a shilling in the pound on all their spending, translated this would be more than five pence in the pound. Not that I'm old enough to remember, I heard about it in stories passed down from one generation to the next in my family. When you think about it they were the original cashback shopping!
I think they do still operate a loyalty scheme but is only a shadow of the past glories, when, as I have said, everyone had a divy book.
They are stuggling against the new breed of supermarkets but hopefully they can persist.
Their line of of fresh healthy food may help to sustain them while sustaining us their faithful shoppers. They still bring more choice and completion to the home shopping scene; long may they persist.
