Advantages: so much to choose from
Disadvantages: expensive
When our new mall opened in Plymouth, I was dying to take a walk around the new chocolate place, Hotel Chocolat. When the crowds had died down I went in and had a good look around. I fell in love with the place instantly and although I don't make a habit of buying form there, I do pick up the odd treat every now and again.
The shop is filled from wall to wall with every kind of chocolate you can imagine with some old favourite combinations to some much stranger duos. You can buy big slabs which take a while to get through or little bars that are great as a quick snack. Whatever kind of chocolate that takes your fancy, you will guarantee that you can find it here.
The place looks very classy and the décor is mostly black. It's very minimalist in the shop that I regularly visit which I find makes it really easy to look through the hundreds of flavours.
The staff are always really friendly and they will often let you try before you buy without making you feel like a cheap skate or a fat bloater!
The main great thing about the place is not only the fact that there are some really unique flavours but some of the bars look amazing and leave you mopping up your dribble from the floor. They make each bar look like a masterpiece with white chocolates swirling around dark chocolate and a few fudge pieces or nuts thrown in for a textured measure.
The not so great thing about the place is that the chocolate is very expensive and I tend to only buy it for special occasions. The slabs cost nearly £12 and although there is a lot of chocolate (500g), you can still buy five or six Dairy Milks for that price. They do, do smaller slabs for nearly four pound but that's still a lot when I can eat the thing within seconds.
I think this is a great place to go if you need to buy a present for the ultimate chocoholic but it's not a place I would want to buy a regular snack from because I would be poor before I knew it if I did!
Summary: lovely chocolate
