Tesco Food Store / Supermarket

Tesco

Newest Review: ... well laid out. There is generally a large range of each item from their own brand 'Tesco value' to the much more expensive branded goods from the well known companies. They accommodate for every budget and every requirement fairly well. They also have a club card scheme where for every pound you spend you get a point and every point is worth a penny. This may not seem a huge amount but they often do offers on the points (for example they are currently offering 2 points per pound). And even if it isn't much it is better than nothing. I'm not sure what the equivalent offered by other supermarkets is. I do use Tesco often as it is the closest... more

I read somewhere recently that Tesco took in one in every eight pounds spent in Britain across all their services and were the second biggest retailer globally. While these are scary statistics (or impressive depending one where you stand), it isn't too hard to see why. For one thing their shops are everywhere. Every corner shop seems to be turning into a Tesco metro or Tesco express and every town seems to have an out of town 'big' Tesco or Tesco Direct. This can also be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. They are providing cheap, easy access to groceries for everyone. On the other side of the fence are the people calling for them to stop their monopoly ...  Read the complete review

Tesco is currently the largest and most successful supermarket chain and retailer in the UK. It is only second to Wal Mart in the global stakes when basing its size and presence on profit. The Tesco stores contain a wide range of items and the range increases the larger the style of store you visit. The name, Tesco came about after original founder Jack Cohen bought a shipment of tea from T.E. Stockwell. He decided to make new labels using the first three letters of the supplier's name (TES), and the first two letters of his surname (CO), forming the word TESCO. This was in 1924. Tesco currently has over 2300 stores in the Uk and has also expanded into ...  Read the complete review

Tesco is one of the biggest chains in the UK. Usually I find their prices to be pretty competitive and usually a good selection!

Still I prefer Sainsbury's.

I am a regular shopper at Tesco these days. I used to swear by Asda, which did (and still does) seem to be cheaper. However, price isn't everything... I love the range of products available at Tesco, I know I should shop around and use local stores, etc to support the smaller guys and keep variety alive, but I find I just don't have the time and more often that not I can get everything I need in Tesco and usually at a better price. Primarily I go there for my food shopping, but more and more these days I find my other purchases there. They seem to do a bit of everything, from socks to plasma tv's and everything in between. So, they're ...  Read the complete review
