Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Appalling customer serivce
We no longer darken the doors of Tesco after many poor experiences of their 'customer service'. These included having to argue extensively with the shop assistant for a refund on an own brand ink refil kit with a '100% satisfaction or your money back guarantee' that failed to work 'because we had used it' amongst other excuses. We were also charged too much for products that scanned in at the wrong prices several times and when we tried to get this sorted out the staff were unhelpful and rude. After (very polietly) trying to explain my problem to a staff member she stormed off muttering 'I've had enough of this'. They also refused to honour their promise (advertised on posters) to give you the full cost back if you were overcharged.
We wrote to head office detailing all these problems to give them a chance to put things right, but received back a standard letter, that gave no evidence of having read or addressed our concerns, that promised they, 'had taken up the issue with the staff member concerned' even though we didn't give them any names, and they even got the store we had visited wrong!
Tesco have an extremely poor ethical record as well, according to Ethical Consumer magazine, not to mention their questionable practises when trying to build new stores with regards to planning etc. All in all we are very pleased to no longer be giving them any of our money.
Summary: Don't care about customers or ethics

- 13/07/09 What is a rant? A rant or harangue is a speech or text that does not present a well-researched and calm argument; rather, it is typically an attack on an idea, a person or an institution, and very often lacks proven claims. Such attacks are usually personal attacks.
Because the person has a bad experience and then wishes to let others know of their dealings or experiences should we only tell people of the good things that happen. It is understandable when a firm as big as Tesco fall down and are not be reasonable.
I too ordered printer ink from Tesco Direct to be delivered to a store, to be told by email it would be delivered on the Friday after 4pm, to be picked up any time within a fortnight but when I arrived on the following Tuesday (after a 4 mile drive there and it's 4 mile back) they apologised and said it had been delivered to the wrong store, I asked as it was their fault would they deliver to my house when it arrived, to be told they could not do this, of course I cancelled and reordered from 7dayshop.com which was free post and cheaper.
I now will not use Tesco Direct. I think it's unfair to say to people it is a rant as people put their feelings into words and this varies from person to person. |

- 03/07/09 I am sorry for the low rating but this is very much a rant rather than an unbiased consumer review about the supermarket. Although I agree with many of your points! |
