Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Rubbish carrier bags!
It's only been a couple of years since my local Tesco superstore arrived and I tell you what it couldn't come soon enough for me! At the time my only local store was Sainsbury's which up until recently I think was rather expensive (it has got better to be fair to it recently!) and I'd only been in Tesco stores when in other towns and I was impressed by them. Most I had been in (apart from a few in London when I had lived there) had been huge shops with all sorts in so I was well excited about ours arriving and I wasn't wrong to be, ours is brill!
Some stores sure are rather small and you do get the metro stores (we have a new one in our city centre) and they are great for picking up 'essentials' including booze and tobacco products however my superstore...well I could do with a day or two shopping in it to be honest!
My store is huge all based on one floor and of course that differs from store to store. We have a cigarette kiosk to the front of the store, a huge magazine section which sells cards etc, homeware, music and entertainment etc. Electricals are rather cheap though I have to admit I very rarely see big brands in our store the prices are amazing! I saw a laptop the other week priced at £299 and phone prices can't be beaten and of course they do a Tesco own range of mobile phones and tarrifs! On sale are all the latest dvds and a few box sets of things once again Tesco prices are amazing in this area. You can pay as little as £9.00 for a latest release and the same goes for music cds and music dvds. My only quibble here is I would like to see a bit more choice in a back catalogue of stuff!
Homeware is great too. We have a huge selection of bedding and things to spruce up your home with on a budget and even a few 'value' items such as cheap quilts, pillows and cushions etc.
My favourite part of the store is the toiletries and clothes of course! Skin Wisdom is a Tesco brand of great quality products (skincare) and are usually on offer too at a pound an item in my local store and the stuff is superb and does a range of cleansers, toners and moisturisers and things like that. Course big brands are stocked too such as Lynx and Sure etc along with 'Skin Therapy' products which again is a sort of upmarket Tesco product of bathing products etc that I simply love. Make up counters are there along with Barbara Daly products (she exclusively designs make-up for Tesco) and basically there is a about 4 rows of cosmetics and skin care treats and for me, I think they are cheaper than in most other stores! We even have a great baby section of stuff too and a wide variety of foods and pampering products on display!
The clothes are great in our store too. Florence and Fred resides and what does impress me is that we have equal sized collections of men's, women's and children's clothes. Also the sizes in most stuff is 8-22 and the sizes are out and refreshed often too. Changing rooms are ok and big enough, staff are thin on the ground in the clothes area but hey least your not hounded and I can always find help if I look hard enough! Basic t-shirts and vest tops are excellent value I must mention that. Going to the gym as often as I do I do like to vest tops to 'freshen up' with and I find the selection for a pound a go to be really good! Only 'value' they wash well and are superb value! I usually find the clothes in Tesco to be rather trendy and I like the mix of staples they sell too!
My only complaint is that they don't have many choices in the shoes! Not to my taste anyway but eh undies make up for that as does the selection of bang on trend stockings and tights. I always find sale items in the clothing section and have never had any issues with clothes I have bought. I find them to wash and wear incredibly well and if you do buy something and want to take it back you have a month to do so providing you keep the receipt and I have taken stuff back and had no quibbles at all!
Now we come on to the most important bit, general shopping! We have aisles of food to choose from as well.... a bakery, a delicatessecent, butchers, fishmongers and hot food/chicken counter. All of which are incredibly clean areas and I've always found the staff to be incredibly pleasant, clean looking and knowledgeable. I've never found what I want to not be in stock or anything like that either and always find it easy to get what I want!
The great thing about Tesco is there is something to suit all budgets. If you want a reasonably cheap bottle of wine it's there but if you want something for special occasions your catered for too. It's like that in every respect in Tesco. You want to pay a little extra for a packet biscuits cos you got the Vicar coming to tea...fine you can do so however 'value' biscuits at about 30p a packet are just that!
Lots of booze, frozen foods and vegetarian foods are available too and lots and lots of special offers always appear to be on. I must also state that although I'm not a Vegetarian I do like some Vegetarian foods and simply must say that Tesco offers some fantastic own brand products, really cheap in price and delicious that rival Quorn and Linda McCartney products in every way. Great burgers etc that are oh so tasty! They also do alot of choice in ready meals and fresh products and the fruit and veg section is superb and again cost effective as is the flower and plant section!
Everything is on sale in my Tesco and I find it great and simply laid out to run in and grab what I want. The shelves are restocked often and I do appreciate the way that when restocking the staff don't stupidly clog up aisles making it hard for me to manoeuver about with ease.
My store is usually heaving and I do appreciate that the management of Tesco make good decisions! We have a few till points and usually them tills are incredibly well staffed with staff actually looking at you and greeting you. Course you get the odd one that doesn't!
Of course I have a club-card which means if I shop in store I get points every time I use my card in-store and every 3 months I get some money off coupons and offers through my door!
All in all I love this store!
Summary: Brilliant!
