Advantages: Huge Range, Competitive pricing, Clubcard Deals make a great bonus.
Disadvantages: None
I am a regular shopper at Tesco these days. I used to swear by Asda, which did (and still does) seem to be cheaper. However, price isn't everything...
I love the range of products available at Tesco, I know I should shop around and use local stores, etc to support the smaller guys and keep variety alive, but I find I just don't have the time and more often that not I can get everything I need in Tesco and usually at a better price.
Primarily I go there for my food shopping, but more and more these days I find my other purchases there. They seem to do a bit of everything, from socks to plasma tv's and everything in between.
So, they're competitive on price and they have everything I need, awesome, but there's more....
Another reason I swear by Tesco is their Clubcard. You get 1 point (worth a penny) for every pound you spend as well as bonus points on various specials from time to time. You also get points with other retailers/suppliers such as Eon and others. You can also get bonus points when you take various insurance/banking products with Tesco.
I also get more bonus points for taking my recycling to Tesco and for taking my own bags instead of using their plastic bags.
What makes the points scheme special for me is the Clubcard Deals. These are special deals with a wide variety of companies that enable you to get 4x the value of your clubcard points. Therefore each clubcard point becomes worth 4p when using 'Deals'.
For me, this equates to a family trip to a theme park 4 times a year saving us in the region of £320! That may not sound like that much, but when I'm only spending around £50 per week on shopping on average that is quite a substantial bonus.
Summary: Competive pricing, huge range & great bonuses
