Advantages: Good bargins, friendly, helpful staff
Disadvantages: They can get very busy
I think Tesco is great, my nearest shop is around a 2 minute walk from my house and it is not the biggest one ever but I use it all the time. They vary in size, for example larger stores have a clothes range and a cafe, smaller shops are mainly just food and household items.
There is plenty of negative press surrounding Tesco regarding the issue of them rapidly taking over the world, I do believe it is true that a town without a Tesco is a rarity, I am unashamed to admit that I am helping them on their way to world domination, after all 'every little helps'. I do believe that all supermarkets should give fairer prices to suppliers such as farmers who supply milk, but I believe this is an issue for all supermarkets, not Tesco's responsibility alone.
I find the Tesco shops easy to navigate which is essential to me a grocery shopping is not my favourite thing so I like to get it over and done with as quickly as possible. Having said that since I have started shopping at Tesco I find myself casually wandering the spacious aisles searching for bargains, which are not hard to find in this shop, they offer a fantastic reduced section which is especially good on a Saturday and Sunday, where you can do most of your shopping, for in my opinion, a fraction of the price.
They offer a loyalty points scheme called 'Clubcard' which I have literally just signed up to, within this scheme you get 1 clubcard point for every pound you spend in store or on fuel. They will also send you money off coupons that are tailored to your needs, for example if you are vegetarian then the won't send you money off vouchers for meat.
Personally I find the whole experience of shopping at Tesco enjoyable, the staff are friendly and helpful, the shop is clean and you can find some good bargains.
Summary: An overall good supermarket

- 06/12/09 Tesco certainly has it's finger in many pies. - perhaps too many.
I too am guilty of helping them towards 'world domination;' though I hope that never comes about. Competition is essential. |
