Advantages: Convenient, friendly staff, club card, environmentally friendly, cheap

Disadvantages: Too many stores, competitors and suppliers losing out

Tesco is fantastically convenient store simply because they are all over the UK- therefore it is likely there is one near you and plus you can buy almost everything you need all under one roof since Tesco does not just sell groceries but electricals, pharmaceutical products (in their pharmacies), books, clothing, stationary, insurance products etc. Tesco is also the most successful British supermarket to go abroad (and is currently in 14 countries) competing with its American and French rivals- Walmart and Carrefour respectively. Some of the larger Tesco stores have toilets in them which can be useful and have disabled parking which is closest to the store which is helpful. The stores are designed in a logical manner and there is a large variety of food available in the larger stores and food is relatively cheap.

Some of the advantages of Tesco are that you get rewarded for your shopping with points using your Tesco club card. Tesco aims to be carbon-free by the year 2050 so when you shop there your not just rewarding your pocket by get points your actually helping the environment and its also worthy to note that Tesco has diverted 100% of its rubbish from going to the landfill in the UK. Tesco also sells a range of Fair Trade food which is important for ethical consumers.

Generally speaking my experience of the staff in Tesco has been excellent as they were helpful and willing to help whenever I needed assistance. Tesco has also invested in the local communities for example by paying for a police station and roads in West Bromwich in return for being allowed to build a Tesco superstore.

One of the disadvantages of shopping in Tesco is that they are all over the UK (and its hard for local stores to compete with them due to economies of scale) and many of its suppliers like the milk suppliers who protested against Tesco and Asda complain of low profit margins which are forcing some farmers to leave the industry (which Tesco claims it cannot solve alone but all major supermarkets need to work together on this issue).

I would recommend people to shop in Tesco due to the experiences and advantages mentioned but at the same time I say that with some hesitancy due to the disadvantages mentioned so therefore would also recommend that you also shop at local stores to support them otherwise they may shut down which could be disastrous. This is because all towns will end up looking similar with less and less family owned stores which will increase the power of supermarket giants further which will mean less choice for consumers plus there is a different atmosphere in family owned stores since you may actually end up knowing workers (or already may have known them) on a personal level. The reason for only giving 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the disadvantages mentioned.

Summary: Generally good overall but getting too powerful
