Advantages: you can buy branded products cheaply
Disadvantages: some items cost less in other shops
There is a 99p store in Camden that I go to regularly and you can actually buy branded products for 99p that would usually cost so much more.
Recent things that I've bought in there that should cost more than 99p are green and blacks chocolates, cadbury dairy milk squares and baci (okay, I admit it, I'm a chocoholic!).
They stock a big range of toiletries, I've seen radox, colgate and dove products being sold in there. I've even picked up a few good books in there.
However, you do need to be careful that you don't end up paying more in these shops than you would in other shops. Not everything in there is a bargain. Some items that they sell are actually only worth half of what you pay for in 99p stores.
The best thing to do is be aware of how much things usually cost before you buy them in there.
The thing that I really don't like with this shop is that it's so crowded, not just with people (although it does tend to get busy) but with products. The shelves are quite close together and often very messy with things spilling over onto the floor. The planning of the shop is awful but I guess they're just trying to get as much as possible into the space which is understandable. I find that I'm willing to fight my way through the people and the mess to buy things in here because they are so cheap but I definitely wouldn't bother if things were more expensive.
The staff aren't the most friendly or helpful but they do work quite fast. Queues are often very long but they go down quite quickly so you have to commend the staff for that. I don't think it would hurt for them to smile once in a while or say please or thank you. I just find them very abrupt.
Summary: Great bargains!
