Advantages: Ditto
Disadvantages: Low maintenance and short life products?
If this caring, sharing Goverment decides to scrap the 1p coin, one dreads to think what the 99p shop will do - apart from become a £1 store, naturellement.
The one nearest to me opened about 6 months ago, in direct competition to two £1 shops within insulting distance of each other. It seems to be doing a brisk trade, and had a quite extensive range of gardening accoutrements this Spring of a plant type nature, many of which found their way into my garden.
Like most of these places, they rely on a very wide range of products; a bewildering array of cheap and basic foodstuffs like 6 bags of Walker's crisps, chocolate based things at 4 or 5 for 99p, and so on. The foodstuff things (loosely termed) also include concentrated drinks to dilute, and so on.
Much of the stock might be called cheapo knick knacks or bric a brac, but it is quite useful, including household goods and tools, and accessories for motor maintenance . There is also a range of kids' toys and play stuff, cheap and cheerful, and probably not designed to last very long. Household effects include cheap and unknown DVDs that possibly no-one watches, reading glasses, cosmetics, shampoos, and similar toiletries. All in all, worth a gander anyway. I use it, so that's probably the best endorsement I can give.
