99p bargain store review... good but it's no woolworths (The 99p Store)

Advantages: Cheap leading brand products

Disadvantages: some alternative brand products are not brilliant

I grow up with Woolworths, it was always the shop I went to when I needed anything, a drink, a game, batteries, you name it, and so when it ran out of business of course I was sad to see it go. A few months later I found it had been replaced by a 99p store, naturally I felt it would never be up to Woolworths standards and straight away I thought it wouldn't be long until this shop closed also. Regardless of my thoughts I still went inside to check the place out.

Everything inside is obviously under the cost of 99p, looking around there are some bargains, drinks from leading brands are cheap, so are cosmetics and stationary. Generally speaking the quality of most of the products in store are good, they sell many well known brands at low prices. And amongst the other brands I did find some incredible bargains. As an art student I was shocked to find that they sold large canvases for just 99p, in other shops these easily cost around £8. And the quality of the canvas was reasonable, it was a little rough on surface but despite this it still got the job done and this store truly is my saviour in terms of cheap art equipment with it also selling cheap acrylics.

There have been products I have purchased from the store which have failed me though, on two occasions I have acquired 99 pence earphones, both of these lasted me no longer than 2 weeks, and the sound quality wasn't great either. Along with the gadgets I have purchased you can also find some tacky items in store. They sell some unusual alternative brands of perfume which being honest smelt like deodorant.

The 99 pence store is good overall, if you know what you want and you are buying from a leading brand which you trust then this place is definitely good for buying from. But to narrow things down, if you're in there to buy cheaper alternatives to the leading brands then I say there will be a 50/50 chance you will be happy with the product. There are some brilliant buys from the lesser brands such as the canvases I mentioned but there are some products that will either fail you or not be up to scratch. It's worth a look around, it's a fairly decent store and you never know what you could find.

Summary: Everything is cheap, some products are good, some are bad...It's worth checking out
