Advantages: Cheap, lots of good items to choose from

Disadvantages: none

We had a new 99p store open this year in Gillingham Kent where our old Woolworths used to be. It is a big store inside although not as big as Woolies used to be as they have partitioned off some of the space to make the store rectangular where as Woolies had bits going round corners etc.

The store is very spacious and there is a big gap between shelves so really easy to get round with a push chair or wheelchair, dont have to worry about not fitting down an aisle like in the smaller version of the shop we have in the next town Chatham.

You can get a basket which is a nice big size and it has wheels on the bottom so you can pull it round the shop which makes shopping easier.

They sell just about everything in there, you have to watch what you buy as sometimes its not worth the money as things might not work properly but on the whole I find it a great help in budgeting for a family.

The food aisles have lots of different things, some that you get in the normal stores like pepsi and 7up which are usually something like 4 fcans or 99p or4 may be a big bottle 2 ltr for 99p or even cheaper sometimes. They have sweets like 4 bars of kitkat for 99p. There are lots of biscuits that come in foreign packs but are tasty and things like jars of sauces, pickles. They also have things like tea bags, coffee and hot chocolate which are good value at 99p.

They have many toiletries which are good makes that are reduced prices to what you pay in the bigger stores, makes like Gillette, Simple, Colgate and Nivea. They sell things like brushes and combs and all sorts of things like this, sponges, hand towels, make up bags etc.

They sell baby bits like Johnsons and Cussons and sell things like baby blankets, bibs, bottles and much more, all at 99p each.

There is a big stationary department where they sell everything from pens and pencils and paper to craft items for card making and for children. Lots of books to colour in and read too for children and books and dvds for adults and kids.

They have a big pet care department too which sells food and snacks and treats for pets plus other things depending what they have in.

There is a part that has paper towels and toilet rolls which are good value, I buy toilet rolls 4 for 99p and they are nice quality.

They have lots of kitchen and dining things in there like storage cartons, plates, mugs, ovenware, and tea towels which are good value and sometimes you can get really pretty special things in this department, good to keep a check on what they have.

They sell home ware stuff too like lightbulbs, ornaments, candles and photoframes.

There is a big DIY section where you can buy tools and hardware things like glue masking tape, door handles, plus car cleaning things and sometimes they have paint and rolls of wallpaper which is great if its something you need.

There is a clothes section where they sell things like underwear and socks, t shirts for children and hats and scarves. The other day they had grey school skirts in for 99p which people were jumping to buy. They also had things like summer hats and flip flops in the summer.

At the moment they have just opened up a department selling stuff for Halloween which has lots of different things to choose from.

They are also getting their Xmas stock in and this is usually a big department where you can buy gift bags and decorations etc.

I would recommend anyone who has never visited one of these stores before to give it a try. You never know what a bargain you are going to get.

Summary: Worth a look round every now and then as they sell proper brand name goods

You make the store sound positively enticing! Are there any branches 'oop north' ?
