Cadbury's Flake
by k2705
I am a big fan of chocolate and lovely anything chocolaty providing it doesn't have nuts in it or on it, I like all of the different fillings you can get in chocolate bars, however sometimes I like to have a bar of just plain chocolate. Being diabetic I cannot just eat chocolate whenever I want and have to be careful when I eat it, I ... find the best times for me to have chocolate as a treat is before the gym to prevent my levels from dropping or if my sugar levels have dropped in order to bring them back up again. I recently bought a bar of chocolate and decided to buy myself a Cadbury Flake, a chocolate bar I hadn't had for a while, but one I have always enjoyed despite it being just plain milk chocolate
The Cadbury Flake chocolate bar comes wrapped in a bright yellow foil packet, I always think the wrappers on Cadbury Flakes seem to be wrapped around the chocolate bar rather loosely, the packet is sealed by twisting the two ends round tightly. The wrapper has the word Flake written on it in purple writing along with the brand name Cadbury.
On the back of the pack is all of the product information including the ingredients, the nutritional information and allergy advise, this is written quite small to fit it on to the packaging however it is still clear to read. The wrapper of a Cadbury Flake is quite simply and nothing fancy, however the bright yellow background and purple writing really makes it stand out on the shelf in a shop. The foiled packet helps to keep the chocolate fresh and also helps to prevent you from spilling the crumbs of chocolate which always flake off of the chocolate bar.
The Cadbury Flake chocolate bar basically is a bar of just Cadbury milk chocolate, it looks like lots of small curls of chocolate all fused together which when you eat does tend to crumble so eating over the packet is s must to prevent the chocolate from being wasted. The chocolate bar contains no filling at all, it is just a plain and simply yet extremely tasty. Personally I do feel that the calorie content and fat content is a little on the high side for a plain bar of chocolate especially compared to some other chocolate bars I have had which have fillings. The nutritional information on the back of the packaging states that the chocolate bar contains the following
* Calories - 135Kal
* Protein - 2.1g
* Carbohydrate - 14.2g
* Fat - 7.9g
* Fibre - 0.2g
* Sodium - 0.03g
The back of the Cadbury Flake wrapper also provides any allergy information, this says that the chocolate bar contains lactose and milk, it also states that the Flake chocolate bar is suitable for vegetarians which is ideal for me. I now check the ingredients of everything I eat to ensure they are suitable for vegetarians as I have discovered that many products that you would not expect to contain animal products actually do, several items of confectionary being one.
Cadbury Flakes are available in a variety of shops including most supermarkets and also sweet shops and corner shops, they are available in most stores which have a confectionary section. The price of Cadbury Flake does vary a little depending on where you purchase it from however it is normally sold for around 70p, this is pretty average for a chocolate bar, single chocolate bars are quite expensive to buy nowadays especially if you compare the price to multipacks which you can buy Cadbury Flakes in, these actually tend to work out cheaper than buying them singularly, however I only wanted one bar and purchased mine from my local Co-op, I wouldn't say the chocolate bar is particularly cheap to buy however it is average and within keeping of the price of single chocolate bars.
I would definitely recommend Cadbury Flake to any chocolate lover, it is a chocolate bar that despite being quite simple I actually enjoy, there is no mistaking that the chocolate is Cadbury, it is lovely and creamy and tastes of a high quality chocolate, Flakes are quite crumbly and can be a bit messy to eat however I sometimes think this is part of the pleasure of these chocolate bars and what makes them a bit different to other bars of chocolate.
Cadbury Flakes are ideal for anyone who likes their chocolate to be plain with no fancy fillings, whilst I do enjoy all the different fillings of chocolate bars I do enjoy just a plain bar of chocolate with nothing but the creamy Cadbury chocolate which is definitely what you get with this chocolate bar. This is definitely something I will buy in the future and would recommend to anyone. Read the complete review |

Cadbury's Flake

Ok, so its not a suprise I mentioned Ripple in this review, those who know me know I'm more of a Galaxy girl than a Cadburys girl. However I overall am a chocolate lover and won't turn my nose up if someone offers me a Cadburys selection pack. My son, my boyfriend and I recieved several selection packs for Christmas. Less than a month ... later they are all gone!
Flakes are wrapped in a yellow foil wrapper to keep the chocolate fresh. They have a twisted end which you just untwist to open, this is unlike other chocolates where you just rip the top off.
Flake has the usual cadburys taste, full of cocoa, rich, smooth, not exactly creamy though.
My problem with flakes is well they just are a bit TOO flaky in my opinon. They go everywhere and many times I've dropped bits on my clothes. Being such thin bits of chocolate they melt very easily.
Ripple are Galaxys kind of equivalent to Flake. Their design in my opinon is better because their flake is covered in a chocolate coat which makes it that bit less likely to fall all over your clothes.
Flake also often has a few bits of chocolate flakes in the bottom of the wrapper, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tipped it up in my mouth! I'm so classy...
You can currently buy a flake at tesco for 59p or a 4 pack for £1
Their chocolate so it doesn't take a smartie pants to figure out they wont be kind to the waistine! They also wouldnt necessarily be the best snack- when your blood sugar goes up it will ultimatly crash...usually making you want more chocolate! It's best enjoyed with lunch rather than as lunch. I've been naughty before and grabbed this for breakfast (in my defense I was running late and had no fruit in house to grab), as well as leaving me with a rather beautiful chocolate stain on my top for the day it didn't exactly set me up for the day!
