Weetabix Oatibix

In cardboard box similar to Wheetabix - has an image of the cereal biscuits in a bowl with blackberries and strawberries. High fibre, low salt and low ... saturated fat. The logo has an image of a red heart behind the green 'Oatibix' name. Has long shelf life - my packet up to May 2014. 2 biscuits are 189 calories. Suitable for Vegetarians. Made in England by Wheetabix. 'Oats eaten as part of a healthy diet contribute to healthy cholesterol levels. 2 biscuits are equal to 1.75 grams of beta glucan soluble fibre from whole grain oats which is about half of the uuggested daily intake of 3 grams.' ===Cost=== £2.68 at Tesco. ===Variations=== You can also buy Oatflakes and Oatibix Bites (Oatibix Bites, Oatibix Bites with Sultana and Apple and Oatibix Bites with Cranberry).. ===My Opinion=== Well currently I am trying to cut out wheat as much as I can form my diet and so I will have to forego all my usual cereals such as Wheetabix and Branflakes. I do like porridge and have a huge bag of it but I find that first thing in the morning I do not feel like cooking porridge so I have been looking for some cereals that are based on oats instead of wheat. I did think of Readybrek but then found these Oatibix biscuits while browsing at Tesco so was delighted to buy some. I love Wheetabix and expected these to just be a sort of oaty version. The are the same shape biscuits as Wheetabix, being slightly oval and quite compressed. Apparently introduced in 2006 but I had never gotten around to trying them before. Oats are a healthy option and are are always being recommended as being good for people's hearts and cholesterol levels that this seemed a fantastic choice. Well unfortunately the product does not really live up to what I was expecting. I usually have my breakfasts with hot milk but as part of a test of these biscuits I have tried them with both hot and cold milk. The cold milk version I found quite horrible. These biscuits dissolve down to a sort of baby food mush but it is not the same sort of consistency you get with porridge. It is as if the oats are finely milled or something as they have no structure at all, as opposed to when you make porridge and you can still see the bits of oats within the mixture. So for me cold milk was definitely out. I have since then used the biscuits with hot milk, and although slightly better they are still disappointing. I have added a tiny bit of sugar but it is still like eating baby rusks. I have two biscuits for breakfast and although I know that they are a healthy option and I am eating then, it is more a case of forcing it down and not thinking about it rather than enjoying it. Maybe if fruit was added or something but I think it is just too finely milled a texture and I think even the baby porridge I bought years ago had a better consistency than this. Such a shame as it is a good idea. I am sure Wheetabix could improve on this product. People are looking for healthier quick options but you would never get children to ea this, and sometimes I am struggling. Maybe the Oatibites will be better as I have not tried those yet. ===Star Rating=== 3 stars. KP Discos
by HelenDK Having just returned from a long day at work (12 and half hours overtime shift), my husband had got a bottle of wine (or 2) chilling in the fridge and had picked up a 8 pack of discos from the local shop. So whilst catching up online I have already drank a glass of wine and eaten a packet of Salt and Vinegar Discos and thus decided to ... review. Price We have a local shop that sells things very near code so this 8 pack of discos cost 99p, however they aren't that far off in Asda at £1 for 6 pack (currently reduced from £1.88) or £4 for 18 pack (more expensive) or 2 x 18 pack for £6 (same bizarrely as a 6 pack). These packs include 2x bacon, cheese and onion or salt and vinegar, mine had an extra 2 (flavour not stated) but was an extra cheese and onion plus a bacon one. Taste The salt and vinegar have a real salt and vinegar kick, could feel my taste buds go ouch, really strong and very nice (IMO) they are shaped in discs but not all survives so have more crescent moons than discs. The other 2 flavours are less pronounced. Calories At 148 kcal I feel slightly guilty (now munching bag number 2 but purely in order to provide precise feedback.. ) and my bag advises me that can be enjoyed as a balanced diet and that I should eat plenty of fruit and veg, good job that I have a glass of wine as I'm sure grape juice (fermented) are part of 5 a day.. Packaging A giant disco ball is the main feature of these diva snacks. These foil packets are coded pink/red for bacon, green for cheese and nion and blue for salt and vinegar. Each bag weighs 28g. I seem to remember these from my childhood but as always I'm convinced they were bigger! They are a nice snack but I was surprised to read the calorie count, so have lost themselves 1 Doo Yoo for I don't think I will be boogieing the calories away tonight. Read the complete review |

St Ivel Utterly Butterly
by Gaz_close There are times when you will need to use butter. Now I do not like butter as it was blamed for my dads high cholesterol so I have it engrained that it is bad for me. The butter from this range is delicious, it is as the name suggests and it is quite delicious. It has the right blend of salt, oils and flavours to make it taste rich but ... it is not as bad for you as butter. It tastes really creamy. I love hot buttered toast and the best way to do this is to use this spread, making sure you brown the toast fully on both sides and then smear a thick covering of this delicious spread on one sides of the taste. The best thing about this is that unlike butter, it is not hard so you can smear it straight from the container. There is no need for butter dishes or special butter knives, throw them all out! I love soft cheese and butter on toast, this is the perfect combination and this butter really makes the teatime treat extra special. I have also used the butter to cook with, I enjoy mushrooms cooked on the hob and with this spread you get buttery mushrooms that taste amazing. If you add a little garlic then you get garlic mushrooms which taste utterly divine, especially with gamon steak. I got a couple of the cartons of this as I knew I was going to love it so I froze one. It comes with a really long exp day anyway but just in case and to make more room in the fridge, I keep one spare in the freezer so all I need to do is get it out as this current carton is running low and it will be fresh for my next usage. This is a good priced butter and the carton comes in a variety of sizes. The soft cheese is creamy with a lovely cheesy flavour, it is deliciously thick and I enjoyed eating it with celery.
