Trident Soft Strawberry Smoothie Flavour Gum
by CTVicky
I hope you like the title, I've noticed some real Richard Whiteley-esque puns in the titles of a lot of Dooyoo reviews and I wanted to see if I could pull it off myself.
I've tried all of the Trident flavours now and this is the most recent I sampled.
I'm afraid to say I've become a gum chewer since giving up ... smoking in May, and I often get through a pack of these in about two days. While I smoked, chewing gum never even occured to me, but now I need something to chew and it's much kinder on my waistline if it's sugarfree gum rather than cake.
-Contains-
Sweeteners (Sorbitol, Xylitol, Malitol, Aspartame etc...), gum base, glycerol, flavourings, emulsifiers, (E322 etc) vegetable oil, colour and antioxidant (E321). Contains a source of phenylalanine

-My opinion-
The ingredients are rather worrying aren't they? Now is the first time I have actually sat down and read the ingredients of one of these. To be honest I would not let a child under the age of sixteen chew these as these must be slightly damaging on a person that's still developing. I'm surprised that there are 165 calories per 100g. That is quite a lot for chewing gum. Although I do wonder if that's only if you swallow it! (I don't, by the way...)
In terms of taste, I think this is the best, followed closely by Tropical Twist, the orange one. I don't particularly like the Trident gums that have hard shells and different flavours inside. I like my gum to be straightforward, thank you! This really does have a nice strawberry taste and it is what I would chew most often, but strangely enough it is a rather elusive flavour, Strawberry Smoothie is quite rare and difficult to find. Only certain shops will stock it. You'll usually find they have the strawberry and lime by Trident instead.
The flavour lasts a very long time with Trident, I'd say about twice as long as other chewing gums.
The problem is, if you chew too many in one day, like me, it can really damage your mouth, especially your tongue. I keep getting nasty lumps on the back of my tongue where I've sucked the gum too much!
The packaging is quite attractive with the red and pink swirls, and the gum is accurately portrayed on the packet.
On the whole, I'd say this is probably the best-tasting gum out there, but health-wise I'd say be a bit wary of it.
This can cost anything from 50p to £1. Read the complete review |

Trident Sweet Kicks Sugar Free Gum
by hstokoe44395
Trident Sweet Kicks Sugar Free Gum:
This is probably one of the weirdest tasting gums I have ever tried. It is chocolate and mint flavour, but it actually is a good combination. When I first saw it I thought how is that going to taste- but in actual fact this was lovely and I was happy when I got eight pieces for just ... 10p!
This was released quite a while ago and the sweet kick is probably just the right name for it as the chocolate is the sweet part and the mint is definitely the kick! Trident are very well known for making weird but wonderful tasting gums and this is definitely one to go down in history!
This comes in a green and brown coloured packet which symbolises the two flavours. There are eight pieces in one pack that sit in a plastic tray covered by foil in a cardboard sleeve. This is probably an advantage because they are easier to get out than the usual packs!
The flavour is quite hard to describe but the gum smells minty, as you pop a piece in, it is a little bit crunchy, the inside is liquefied in a chocolate flavour which then contrasts with the mint gum and it is absolutely wonderful. You would never expect it to taste nice but it really does- it is remarkable. The only thing I will moan about is the fact that the flavour disappears quite rapidly but that is all.
I got one pack of these for 10p from home bargains and I think they still do them in there. If not they sell these in newsagents, supermarkets and other convenience stores for around 50p which is also not too bad, This is a flavour that you have to try once in a while- sweet kick!

Trident Soft Spearmint Gum
by iamasadlittleboy
B&M are seemingly going through the Trident gum range selling them at 5p a packet, first it was the Lemon one the the Chocolate mine one now it's just the plain Spearmint flavour one. After first being available at around 50p a packet (which contains 9 bubble wrapped pieces) the fact B&M are selling them so cheaply shows that ... they probably over-ordered them when they were at their height of popularity a year or two back. The product famously had one of it's advert banned for racism but still managed to go with the "Mastication for the nation" tag line that could well have been bordering on offensive it's self.
The gum is manufactured by Cadbury Trebor Bassett who were attempting to break the monopoly of Wrigleys that have dominated the UK gum market for so long it's unbelievable and although it did break through for a while, Trident does seem to have lost it's appeal over the past few months. So what about this gum? It comes in what looks like quite thick pellets and when bitten into has a liquid centre with a strong fresh taste that. Though the taste doesn't last as long as the Wrigleys 5 gums it does last a decent amount of time, longer than most of the cheaper Wrigleys.
The gum is sugar free, which was one of the original appeals of the gum though it's not the only one on the market. However as it's sugar free it is full of sweetners, in fact the gum contains 4 separate sweetners including Sorbitol, Acesulfame K and Aspartame. This is added to 3 E numbers as well well as Soya, it also may contain Sesame Seeds and Nut traces so beware if any of them effect you. Also as is the problem with all gum, excessive consumption may lead to diarrhoea so it's advisable to not go over the top with gum.
Overall for 5p this is a great quality gum to have with a more minty and normal taste than some of the other Trident flavours available which have rather bizarre and un-gum like flavours. If you want a minty gum at a budget price this is brilliant, however it won't last as long as the 5 series or quite have as good of a flavour but when you consider the price different it's undeniable which is the better value.

The fact gum has a nutritional value section on the packaging is quite worrying considering we're advised not to swallow it, does this mean Cadbury's are advocating the "eating" (not just chewing) of gum? Which when added to the laxative effects of the gum...maybe Cadbury's are planning to sell some form of toilet paper "Trident toilet paper" in foreseeable future. Read the complete review |
