“ Manufacturer: Aldi / Type: Pies „
I absolutely love mince pies and buy them rather regularly and of late my Mum has been doing a little shopping in our local Aldi store and been picking these up for us weekly! I was a bit unsure of how good they would be for about 69p for a box of 6 and usually I'm happy to spend quite a bit on this type of product!
Purple coloured oblong box with a photograph on the front of the mince pies and I'm told they are Holly Lane, Tempting Cakes, Festive 6 Deep Filled Mince Pies 'Shortcrust pastry cases filled with mincemeat, with a shortcrust pastry lid and lightly dusted with sugar'. I'm also told they are freezable, suitable for Vegetarians and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there. Other information on the back of the box includes being told a bit about the product, ingredients and allergy advice is given, I'm told how to heat them up (that is optional), storage details are given, there is a full nutritional rundown given, weight is started which is 349g and finally contact details for Aldi are given. Nice enough box, easy to open and informative enough and inside there is a red plastic tray and the 6 mincepies all sit in silver foil cases.
Round in shape and a light golden colour they really do look the part. Quite deep with a splattering or white sugar over the top of them they even have a holly leaf pattern on the top. Easy to handle and they don't fall apart these are not bad at all.T he pastry isn't too thick but it's robust enough and sweet and buttery and it's not like eating bricks! The mincemeat filling smells fruity and fermented and is of course made up from apple, raisins and sultana's. It's a juicy mix, again not too sweet and it's of great consistency. My only moan about these is there isn't enough filling in the over-sized pastry case which is a shame cos otherwise I think these are great!
Contains: Wheat, gluten, soya and may contain traces of nuts.
