I remember when I was at uni you could not beat the taste of a fish finger sandwich plastered with tomato sauce and it had been far too long since I had had one so since I was out doing the shopping I thought I would grab a packet and relive the dream. I got these fish fingers from the local Aldi and this is what I thought of them.

The Packaging

The fish fingers come in a pack of 10 and on the front of the box is a picture of some of the fish fingers which have been cut into so that you can see the fishy centre. The packet has gone for a nautical kind of theme with blue being the main colour and the design having lots of wavy lines in it. The product is described as "10 Cod Fish Fingers, coated in a golden crunchy crumb. Sounds to me as though they have gone with the traditional fish finger approach then.

The other sides of the packet include the obligatory storage instructions, nutritional info, ingredients and cooking instructions.

All in all the packet has a catchy design and looks good.

This is printed on here for a good reason... still not quite sure what that reason is because not many people look at it but here
goes anyway. These values are per 100g

Cooking Instructions

Now the pack suggests 4 different way for cooking these but I only ever really remember cooking them under the grill so that's the method I went with first. This method took about 10 minutes for them to be ready to eat. I later tried cooking them in the oven which takes slightly longer. The other two options are either shallow fry or deep fry but in my book these are rather unhealthy ways to cook them but it is much quicker to cook them in the fryer (about 5 minutes)

Appearance

Well surprise surprise.... They look like fish fingers!!! Not a lot else I can say really as I think fish fingers tend to have a universal look but they did look good. The grilled ones look a lot better than the oven ones though as they are more golden and not quite as soggy.

The Taste Test

To be fair these tasted pretty damn good. You could really taste the cod and the breadcrumbs on the outside where really nice especially on the grilled fish fingers. They tasted just as good as the Iceland ones I used to eat at uni and I have a feeling the Aldi ones are cheeper. I would definitely buy these again and have already finished the box so will need to pop out for some more soon.

The Price

The pack of 10 cost 85p which is 8.5p per fish finger which I think is pretty good going and with 3 fingers making a decent fish finger butty there are three butties in each pack.

The Verdict

These are a great product which taste really good and offer exceptional value for money. As well as going well in a sandwich they go particularly with beans and waffles of chips and since they are ready so quickly they are ideal for when you are in a hurry.
