... bought us a piece of this to share. Needless to say after a few mouthfuls he was back at he till buying another piece! I was quite upset that i would only be able to indulge in this cake every few months when shopping in Ikea but to my delight i stumbled across it in my local Tesco and it was on offer for a pound or so. The cake is made of several layers of vanilla type filling, similar to cheesecake and has melted dime bar throughout and as the topping. Most of the cake is quite crunchy and has a lovely biscuit base. ...more

Crowned Review Almondy Daim Cake: Too sweet to eat. (634 words)

I had to wait till a Sunday trip to IKEA to give this a try and let you know what my opinion on it was, because you just cannot find it anywhere else. I have to say that this Almondy Daim Cake is pretty much on a par with most things Swedish (not that good)! Almondy who are the company that make this Daim cake are responsible for a few other cakes such as the Snickers tart but to be honest after trying this one I think I will be giving the rest a miss. This cake is loosely based on the Daim bar once known as the Dime bar and it does have the sweetness of a Daim bar but that is about it. The box this cake comes in looks a bit Marks and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A real luxury for Coeliacs everywhere (391 words)

This is a Swedish dessert. I know what your thinking, Swedish dessert, what the heck? Sweden is well known for herrings, reindeer sausage and loganberries, and if you believe the Ikea hype, hot dogs! Well the Almondy Daim cake may just change your opinion of Swedish cuisine if like me you had any doubts before now. Almondy isn't a description of the flavour it's the name of the company who make the tart, although the base of the cake is an almond biscuit base so is also the description. The recipe is over 100 years old but this has only been around for 20 years. The company also have a couple of cheesecakes, a true almondy tart and shockingly a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Almondy Daim Cake: Give it ago if you have no tastebuds (409 words)

I'd been working hard on Friday night, and when i got home from work I decided all I wanted to do was go and watch a dvd and munch on loads of junk food. So off I go to Tesco and in the frozen section I found an Almondy tarta wiht Daim inside, I have always quite fancied the look of these but could not justify spending £3.00 on it, so as it was on special offer for £2.00, I thought what the heck. The tarta comes in a box with a picture of a slice of tarta on the front with some berries next to it (decoration goes along way), and says you can defrost in 10 minutes. On the back of the box there is a little storey about how the 2 men found the receipe, the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Time for Daim Cake? (668 words)

I heard about Almondy in a review on Dooyoo and whilst shopping in Tesco noticed and purchased this version of the frozen desert. Almondy is a frozen cake that comes in a variety of flavours including Snickers bar, raspberry cheesecake and lemon cheesecake. This particular flavour incorporates the confectionary item the Daim bar, or Dime bar as people in the UK might be more familiar with, into the ingredients. I associate Dime bars with being a teenager as that was the only time I ever ate them, buying them on the way to school and eating them at break time! They are essentially a thin slab of crunchy, brittle toffee wrapped in a layer of thin milk chocolate. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Almondy Daim Cake: Should Have Stayed In Sweden (387 words)

I found this Almondy Daim cake in Morrisons last week and thought it looked proper nice because the box is just like the one that Dooyoo have got in their photo and you can see that the cake is made up of layers and that always appeals to me because I love stripes. It's frozen and as soon as I defrosted it I knew it wouldn't be as good as I thought it was going to be. It smells dead sweet and when I cut it I could feel that it was going to be soggy and a bit wetter than most cakes. A bite told me that I didn't like this cake because it's loads too sweet and that's mad because I usually like sweet stuff. It doesn't taste much of Daim bars and ...  Read the complete review
