I've said this before but, as a child I was a thief. When the fancy took me during the day, while my mum wasn't looking, I would steal a mug of Alpen, top it up with whatever was creamiest in the fridge, and take this under the dining room table, together with a teaspoon. There I would munch away happily - the small spoon making the experience last so much longer. Our table was a bit strange. It had just two solid legs that stretched the full width of the top and, with a cloth dangling over this, I could hide from view in my little house. I guess though that I wasn't meant for a life of crime as I never covered my tracks too well. When my mum ... Read the complete review

Alpen is made by the Weetabix cereal company and was created in the late 1960's. According to an article I read, it was created as a reaction to the natural organic and environmental movements sweeping the US and UK. To me it has always seemed quite a natural, aware product. This might have something to do with their advertising showing rolling hills and clean, fresh countrysides. This healthy philosophy extends to all their products and their muesli cereals are one of my favourite types of cereal. I love muesli based cereals as I like to mix them with yogurt and add more fruit as this means a different breakfast everyday as you can really add anything you ... Read the complete review

What this awesome cereal lacks in looks it certainly makes up in wholesome content and value. Alpen Original is made by Weetabix, which I presume does not need much introducing. Recently I have been making an effort at trying new cereals to enjoy at breakfast and my recent adventure with Kellogg's Frosties is now over. It's Alpen's turn and so far it looks good. The last time I tried Alpen was ages ago when I was a school going boy and back then we were not really concerned about what was good for you. Rather the norm back then was what tasted the sweetest and what had the best little gift or sticker in the box. Alpen ... Read the complete review

I am (and always have been) a huge fan of Alpen by Weetabix. Although more costly than other muesli, it has been around for a long time. The quality of this cereal I also believe is far higher than some of the 'copy cat' cereals of the same type. Alpen Original is in a different box now, than the one shown here. It is red and has pictures of different fruit on the front. It also offers 33% extra at the moment and gives 1kg rather than 750g. On the front of the box it also boasts 100% natural ingredients. Amongst others it includes Raisins, Rolled Oats, roasted hazelnuts (so obviously no good for those with a nut allergy) and also crispy wholegrain wheat ... Read the complete review

When it comes to breakfast cereals I will eat most of them but I do have a few real favourites that I am quite happy to eat whatever time of the day it happens to be. One of these is Alpen Original, made interestingly enough by Weetabix. I say interestingly because I thought Weetabix only made Weetabix (the biscuits) so I was quite surprised to find this out. Alpen is made of 100% natural ingredients - it says so on the box! These are: Whole Wheat Rolled Oats Raisins (12.5%) Sugar Dried Skimmed Milk Dried Milk Whey Mixed Sliced Nuts - Hazelnuts and Almonds (3%) Malt Extract Salt I am very fond of meusli in ...
