Advantages: Healthy, lots of ingredients
Disadvantages: None
Alpen is made by the Weetabix cereal company and was created in the late 1960's. According to an article I read, it was created as a reaction to the natural organic and environmental movements sweeping the US and UK. To me it has always seemed quite a natural, aware product. This might have something to do with their advertising showing rolling hills and clean, fresh countrysides.
This healthy philosophy extends to all their products and their muesli cereals are one of my favourite types of cereal. I love muesli based cereals as I like to mix them with yogurt and add more fruit as this means a different breakfast everyday as you can really add anything you like to them. A lot of the time though I find Alpen have so much fruit, dried fruit etc packed into them though that sometimes you do need to add anything extra as they are so filling and tasty. For example their Alpen High Fruit cereals contain one of your five a day in every bowl which is nice. It also includes jumbo sultanas, flame raisins, golden raisins, apples, blackcurrants and cranberries.
The variety of Alpen Cereal that I am eating now however is the Alpen High Fibre variety. It's very important for us to get lots of fibre in our diet and this cereal gives us an excellent way of getting in, just by eating our breakfast. Alpen say that fibre is an essential part of our diet and plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy digestive and immune system and can also help us feel fuller for longer to help prevent overeating.
On the front of the box it says that the high fibre variety has crispy wheat and oat bran flakes with toasted oat clusters blended with succulent raisins and rolled oats. The oat clusters in this are really quite big and crunchy and gives this cereal a really nice texture. According to the box there is 25% of your guideline daily fibre in every bowl.
This cereal is quite healthy too which is another added bonus. Per 45g serving there are only 154 calories which is great. A healthy breakfast for everyone to enjoy.
