I never usually buy name brand products but I made a apple and blackberry crumble the other week and forgot to buy custard. The only one they had at my local Plymco was this one and I bought 150g pots for £1 although you can buy them in tins for around 85p.

The custard is rather thick and sticks to the spoon when you put it into the mixture. It quite a vibrant yellow and doesn't have a distinct smell to it at all. The only thing I can say is that it smells sweet with a slight vanilla hint to it.

Now I have been happy with the Asda Smartprice custard up until now but I realise that those extra few pennies make a lot of difference. This custard is really creamy and sweet but without being overly sweet. I find that the asda version can be rather sickly and I can't eat too much of it whereas this one is a pleasant eating experience and I could easily finish a whole tin.

The custard can be eaten hot or cold and I have to say that either way is just as good. It was good on my crumble but it was also nice eaten by itself.

My boys loved this too and although it's high in sugar I don't mind them having a small pot every now and again.

For those of you who like to know there are 102 calories, 12g of sugar and 2.9g of fat per 100g.
