Advantages: Quick and easy.

Disadvantages: More expensive than handmade.

I can't stand dry food. Even puddings, they have to be moisturised in some way and this leaves three choices, ice cream, cream or custard. I have always so far in life made my own custard and this has so far been successful. It has always tasted good so I have had no need to buy the tinned stuff. This changed when I was cooking for a big group of friends and to remove on element of the pressure I purchased some tins. When it comes to prepacked custard ambrosia is the only brand I would chose, purely because it is so heavily advertised I associate the two names instantly.

The custard appeared to come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. It comes in tins and packets, I happened to buy tins, and two of them was enough to provide a side serving of custard for 8 people. The tins were recyclable which was a massive bonus for me. The packaging was bright and attractive and has easy to read and clear instructions on hoe to use the custard. You can eat the custard cold or you can reheat in the microwave or in a pan. Both seemed relatively easy and I chose the pan method as then I could stir it and keep an eye on it to check it didn't over cook etc.

The custard warmed up in a matter of minutes and was a lovely bright yellow colour. The smell was delicious and it appeared inviting. We all tucked into the custard and everyone enjoyed it. Taste wise I could not tell the difference between the tin purchase and the normal one I make from powder. I will probably stick to the powder in future as it is cheaper but when I am rushed Ill go with the tins.

Summary: Tastes good for tinned food!
